Pandora is sneezing, going to the vet at 3

On Saturday I noticed Pandora was a little off, then Sunday morning she woke up sneezing. She vomited her breakfast up on Sunday and continued to sneeze off and on throughout the day. She wouldn't play with Hurley or Lilly either which is totally abnormal since Pandora is a border collie stuck in a cat's body. She kept the rest of her food down yesterday but in the night she vomited again (I stepped in it on the way to the bathroom, oops). She woke me up throughout the night sneezing. Her eyes are running a bit too, weird thing is the fluid coming out of her is clear. This morning she woke up sneezing too, but today she is more playful and active. I'm not sure what's going on at this point. I'm taking her to vet because I don't like messing around with URIs (if that's what this is).

Could just be allergies- but the vet always knows best
good luck! let us know how it goes

A few weeks back, Midnight was sneezing, and had clear liquid coming out of both eyes, 1 worse than the other. We took him to the vet, he had a cold. They gave him medicine, but we couldn't get him to take the pill, he fought us every step of the way so we took him back and they gave him a shot, the cold cleared up right away.

So we are back from the vet. Pandora's vet said her lungs sound congested. She prescribed baytril for a week. I am VERY nervous about the baytril. I know it can have some terrible side effects. I am going to keep a very close eye on her. Her vet said that her heart sounds really good, her temperature was normal and that in general other than the sneezing that Pandora looks really good. She gained some weight and that is a good thing since she's such a skinny girl.

If Pandora doesn't start feeling better within a few days of the baytril I am supposed to take her back for an x-ray.

Our vet and animal opthamologist both use clavomox rather than baytril, so keep a close eye on your baby! We are currently dealing with loss of vision with Sophie, our 16 yr old Persian! It started after a sinus infection, but it seemshigh blood pressure caused the detachment of both retinas! She's on her second round of clavomox! The infection is improving but the vision issue is still a problem even though both retinas have reattached after about 5 weeks (the blood pressure is down from 250 to 140 due to twice daily doses of norvasc/amlopidine!

Prayers and good vibes coming your way!

I have used Baytril in the past. It is a step up from Clavamox (amoxicillin) and should clear up her URI. Give three to four days, did they mention if it is viral at all then the antibiotics won't help? It will help though if the virus turns bacterial. Perkins was pretty sick from an URI and he was only five months old. I even had to nebulize him he was so congested. He was on Clavomox and then had to go to Baytril and then it cleared right. He didn't have any side effects like vomiting or diarrhea. I had to get a pill plunger to give Perkins the pill. He was not good with the finger method, and my finger kept getting chewed up. I hope your Pandora is feeling better in a couple of days, I am sure she will.

The worst part is sitting around and waiting for the antibiotics to kick in. I hate watching her feeling sick. It hurts my heart. I just want her to feel better. I don't have a support system, it's just my husband and me. I have no friends to lean on in this town and my husband is gone most of the time for work. I'm all alone with a sick kitty and I feel helpless. I guess it could be worse, but she's my baby and I want her to feel better.

We'll be your support system! We've got lots of years of experience among us.

If she's not breathing well (congested), take her into a really steamy bathroom and sit in there with her. The steam will help break up that snot in her nose and help her breathe easier.

Make sure she eats. If she's really congested, she probably won't want to eat, so get some really stinky canned food and warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave or in a water bath and then offer it to her. If she's got a runny nose, elevate her food dish so she doesn't have to bend her head down as far to eat.

If she doesn't want to eat at all, you might have to force feed her. She HAS to eat or else you're risking liver damage. Baby food (meat & gravy works well) is often a wonderful temptation. As much as I don't like Fancy Feast, that seems to work well, too.

You can use plain saline drops in her nose to help, too.

Thanks Stephanietx, I really appreciate all your suggestions.

So far I've been giving her the baytril after she eats her breakfast and then giving her a bunch of treats after she swallows the pill. (She's a skinny girl so I figure the treats won't hurt her) I'm not seeing any side effects from the baytril yet. I am hoping that giving it to her with food in her tummy will help her to not have tummy upset. (Kind of like humans and advil.. If I take an advil without food I get very sick to my tummy) I've pilled animals before, so I've been able to get the pill down very quickly she doesn't know what's happening.

Her breathing seems okay, once in a while she will sneeze and I've seen her breath threw her mouth maybe twice. Yesterday she was super tired after coming back from the vet and that always makes me nervous, although I know it's pretty normal since vet visits can be stressful. Pandora is a very high-energy cat and I hate seeing her not feeling well. Last night Lilly lay next to Pandora on her back and was pawing at her and it seemed like she was trying to figure out why her big sister wasn't wanting to play.

When it comes to my pets, they are pretty much all I have. I am a huge worrier. I hate it when someone isn't feeling well.

Something else you might want to consider is adding a probiotic to her diet for a few weeks. Not only will it help her tummy, it's good for her. When we give antibiotics, we just use acidophilus caplets. You can get them in the supplements section. Just crush and add to wet food mixture.

Have you noticed any improvement in her health and activity level?

I've been giving her acidophilus in her wet meal in the evening. I learned all about probiotics because of my chinchillas.

Last night she woke up and wanted to play a little bit and so far she hasn't sneezed at all today.

I took her into the bathroom and steamed it up really good like you suggested yesterday, she wasn't too happy because she thought I was gonna give her a bath but I think it helped.

So far I haven't seen any side effects from the baytril.

I'm so glad Pandora is feeling better.

I checked out her page and I think she is really adorable and lovely, too.

You are a good meowmy!

Yay! Sounds like she's on the mend! Just keep doing what you're doing and if she goes downhill call the vet again.

Pandora is all better! Thanks for all the help and suggestions! I'm going to continue the probiotics for a while longer.

She's all back normal and has been spending the last few days playing with her siblings.
