We've been getting a major snow storm once a week! This week we're getting a minor 1 first, then the major 1 that you're talking about.

We are expecting weather junk on Tuesday and Wednesday here last I knew. Mostly mixed stuff I think. Or mixed on Tuesday and snow to rain on Wednesday. I'm weary of the winter weather.

During the storm last week even the forecasting was ridiculous. They kept saying either 2-4 or 3-4 inches (I forget which now). Then, at like 7 pm or so, after the storm had already started they bumped it up to 5-8. At about 12:30am I looked outside and we didn't have an inch. So I checked the forecast again and they had changed it again! To just 1-3. I was very very very very grateful for that! Believe me!!!! Not too far north of me they got dumped on!

We are on the far southeast edge of it and have ice in our forecast.

At least we had a lovely sunny weekend that melted what we had.

This has been a VERY unusual La Nina winter...usually we get some dramatic warmups. We've only had one big warmup so far...around New Years.

At least lake effect snow is really pretty. Up here in North Indiana it is reminiscent of holiday post cards and popcorn tins. If there was a ranking for pretty snow I would put lake effect up there at the top with Rocky Mountain powder. No question about it, lake snow is much prettier than the very wet heavy snow that often pelts the lower Midwest.

The National Weather Service scared the poo out of me last night, breaking into our tv viewing with a prediciton of 12-18" of snow---on top of the ice. Of course, the local weather people are saying 6-8", which is a whole lot easier to handle, obviously. Then there's the 40mph winds that are in the forecast, too.

If I'd heard the forecast earlier, I'd have made a trip to the grocery store (I think I have half a dozen pieces of bread in the house). As it is, I'll be there shortly, and probably play tug-of-war with some woman over the last loaf. I don't know about other parts of the country, but when a storm is forecast here, folks go nutty.

Stay warm and safe, everyone!

Wow that's unusual for BC isn't it? Well, I suppose it would depend on where in BC you live.

Here in Southern Ontario we have not had a particularly bad winter. We are scheduled to get that storm on Tuesday or Wednesday and they are saying up to 30 cm of snow. That's not so bad really.

I just hope we get a dry, powdery snow; even using the snowblower is hard when it's the wet stuff. My neighbors are in their 70s, so I always take care of their walks, too; makes their little Yorkie very happy.

I'm more worried about the ice storm than the snow.

They are saying this is going to to be a combination of the ice storm of '06 with the blizzard of '82(and I remember both.) Both were bad enough alone, much less combined. Let me put it this way, I was 2(about a month from 3) during the blizzard of '82 and I REMEMBER it, and I know I really do because I brought up things that I remembered that my parents didn't. I remember my dad having to walk(couldn't drive) to the store because we ran out of food. That was a lot of snow, 6 ft snow drifts in the driveway took my parents over a week to shovel the driveway. Thundersnow got us then and that's what's going to get us this time, they are also calling for thundersleet.

Just waiting for it to get to this side of the river(I'm in O'Fallon, IL) I hope i's still ok to drive to pick up Bobby from school at 3 PM. O'Fallon never closes school early, trust me they refused to close the school early during a blizzard when I was in high school. I got to drive home in 2-4 inches of snow, everyone else closed early.

We are right on the cusp or 3"-6" and 6"-10" of snow, but smack dab in the middle of the worse of the ice storm(1/2" - 3/4" of ice. For those who don't deal with this 1/4" of ice is very bad news and you start facing power outages, we're facing double to triple that.)

Still debating where I'm sleeping tonight. Paul might lose power and that would be cold. My parents also might lose power but they have a full house backup generator, but I sleep like crap at home and Bobby would want to share my bed and that ain't cool(he tries to push me out of bed in his sleep.) I'll prolly hunker down with Paul, fewer trees to make an unscheduled entry into the trailer.

Hope it's a tiny bit of ice and mostly snow. Snow I can deal with, ice no one can deal with.

I remember that ice storm (and the blizzard, but the ice was so much worse). We live 5 blocks from the Mississippi River, and maybe 1.5 miles from the lock and dam. During the winter, eagles feed just below the dam where the fish are easy to get to. That winter, the ice was so think and stayed around so long that I spotted eagles over the city, looking for food. That's just not something you're supposed to see---eagles flying over your house.

I seriously hope they're wrong about the ice; the temps are supposed to get below zero in a couple of days, meaning the ice will be here until August.

My only word of advice for some people who might be experiencing this kind of weather for the first time is--don't travel unless you absolutely have to. Stay in and cuddle with your kitties.

Be safe, everyone!

The weather forecasters here are all over the board. We are getting ice today, and it's supposed to start snowing later tonight through tomorrow. We have forecasts of anywhere from 6 inches to 2 feet of snow coming our way.

I've stacked a lot of firewood next to the house just in case we lose power, and I'm getting all the house chores done today that need electricity (laundry, dishes, etc). The last really nasty storm that hit here had power out in areas for over a month. Ours was out for 5 days.

I'm supposed to work tomorrow in the middle of the storm. I'm seriously considering calling in with a "can't get out of my subdivision" excuse and stay home. Honestly, I have a great car, but I'm not sure it will be able to navigate up and down all the hills in my neighborhood.

Oh my gosh that's terrible!! 5 days would have seemed like a picnic for the ones who lost it for a month but either way not something I'd want! Glad you have a fireplace to keep warm by! Sure wish we did! But we aren't expecting to shoulder the brunt of this storm; thank the Lord! I'll be praying for everyone who is or will be affected by this storm!
