So, I am a caretaker of a feral cal colony, and want to make sure they are all healthy and well cared for. As part of care, I thought medicating would be important. So, to insure the healthiness of the cats, I have a few questions:

-Do you medicate your feral cats
-What flea and tick medication do you use. Where do you get it?
-What deworming medication do you use? Where do you get it?

Please keep i n mind, I really can't touch any of the ferals, so topical, spot-on treatments like Frontline are really not an option.

Thanks a lot everyonr for all the help!

There is Capstar, which is a pill you can crush and place in wet food. The only problem with that is you have to make sure one cat doesn't eat all the food (and get all the Capstar).

You can also sprinkle diotomaceous earth on their food and in the areas surrounding their feeding station. It is microscopic fossilized shells that killl fleas by ripping them open on sharp points (I just love that image!!!
) It's available on the Internet.

Bless you for taking care of them.

Thank you, Ondine for your help. Where do you buy your Capstar, and what size pill do you buy? Also, where do you buy the powder you are talking about? Can I shake it directly on the cats skin?

Thanks again for all of your help!

Thanks so much, again, Ondine!

May I ask how long a pound of DE qill last you, and how many cats you use it for? Do you sprinkle it directly on the cat, or do you apply it to the food?

Also, where do you buy your de-wormer? And can I use DE in place of a flea and tick product like Capstar?

Thanks again

I had the ferals wormed when they were spayed/neutered. As they were all moved to the farm shortly after, I did not worm them again.

I used Capstar for fleas but only once because I couldn't control who ate it. If I recall correctly, I just followed the directions. I bought it at PetMeds.

I think I got 50 pounds of Diotomaceous earth and used it all on about a fourth of an acre. Spread it lightly but evenly.
