In October, I adopted a stray. It's a rather long story but he melted my heart, I had him checked out (and made sure he didn't belong to anyone) and adopted him. The vet believes he's between 2 and 5 and has lived out in the wild since he was very, very young if not his entire life.

Now, he drools when we pet him for a long time and he's excited but he's done that since he came close enough to pet him. Recently, his drool has begun to smell awful. It's nauseating. I read that it may be periodontal and he does have a chipped front tooth. He's getting his teeth cleaned in April (they said they had to wait 6 months after neutering him) BUT he's also recently developed terrible terrible stinky farts. lol. He passes gas mainly at night and it's worse than my golden retriever!

So I got to wondering... your gut and mouth and everything is all your intestinal tract. Could his food be causing both of these problems? I ask because he didn't have either of these at first. I feed him purina indoor and purina urinary tract (i have another cat who had very minor crystallization of her urine so i was advised to feed her that... and there's really no way they can eat separately) and he also gets a half a can of fancy feast in the morning and a half a can at night. I switched my other cat to purina from pro plan a year or two ago b/c it's really pretty much the same thing and the vet said it would be fine.

Is there something else I should maybe be giving him? Should I give him grass plants or lettuce or something? Does he need more canned food as opposed to dry since it's more protein? Should I give him chicken livers or something?

He really is very healthy aside from slight allergies (occasional stuffy nose) from being inside and in dust so i try to run a humidifier in a few rooms often. These things don't seem to bothe rhim at all; he runs, plays, eats really well, uses his potty EXCEPTIONALLY well and a few times a day. Just looking for a little advice.

Thanks!

The drooling is probably related to either periodontitis, but I will guess your cat has Stomatitis. The worst drooling in cats I've seen is in LPS stomatitis kitties. You might want to have him checked before April, I am not sure why the wait... I would go to a dentist...
Purina sure gives some awful smelling poops and gas... At least it did when Lucky first came home and she was on it - she would clean up the room. She was on Purina One... Changing her for a higher quality food and also changing the litter took care of that problem.
Good luck with your kitty!

You should really take him to the vet to make sure everything is ok.
