Mubarak Steps Down, Ceding Power to Military
Quote:
President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt resigned his post and turned over all power to the military on Friday, ending his 30 years of autocratic rule and bowing to a historic popular uprising that has transformed politics in Egypt and around the Arab world.
The streets of Cairo exploded in shouts of “God is Great” moments after Mr. Mubarak’s vice president and longtime intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, announced during evening prayers that Mr. Mubarak has passed all authority to a council of military leaders.

It is a wonderful happening in Egypt, the people must be so happy.

I was sad to read about Lara Logan the CBS news reporter, she was covering the protest in Cairo and the day that Mubarak resigned and left the Capital she was attacked in the square by 200 men and brutally beaten and sexually assaulted for an hour or more. I thought the people were happy that they were free why would they do this? They were screaming Jew Jew at her but she is not a jew she is from south africa.

It's pretty hard to read, be careful. That poor woman will never be the same for the rest of her life.

When social order breaks down, it takes a while for things to go back to normal. In this case, it may have been government goons who did the deed, or it may just have been crowd hysteria.

These countries should keep in mind that the U.S. has a long history of turning on long-time friends when reporters are attacked.
