We had been going to a vet clinic that is literally 5 minutes from our home. Although they were always nice enough, and close, almost everytime we went there, we had a different vet. Along with this, they were also fairly expensive.

My grandmother goes to a vet who is approx. 20 minutes away from us. She has always talked about how great he is, and then when we officially adopted LP, my friend at the shelter also recommended this vet, saying he is very compassionate and cares more about the animals where most vets care more about the money.

We decided to give him a try, as we REALLY want just one vet that we can build a raport with, who we can get to know and who can get to know our cats. We brought LP there for his check up and we're also having him neutered there.

As most of you know I had a major health scare recently with my Osiris where we had to be seriously involved with the vet. I can't say enough good things about him. He was wonderful with Ossie, very gentle and SO helpful. He did many things for him, but even came right out and said "There is no point in running a battery of test that will only really tell us what we already know, and we don't need to run up a crazy bill." He said that of course if it came down to it, we'd do whatever is necessary, but he didn't try to gouge us. With the great care and treatment that Dr. Abbate provided, I am happy to say that Ossie is doing AMAZINGLY well now and is pretty much back to himself.

This afternoon though, I got a call from his vet tech asking me how Ossie was, as they just wanted to make sure that he was doing well!
I have never had a vet follow up, and it seriously made my day to know that I have finally found a reasonable vet who seriously seems to care. What's also astounding is that there are things on the bill that he SHOULD have charged for, that he didn't, and I never once mentioned money in any way, shape, or form and would have paid whatever he charged me. I'm just thrilled all the way around!

That is so awesome! We, too, have a vet who is much more compassionate than the average vet and not into making tons of money. It's so wonderful to have ONE vet and for them to know you and for you to know them.

That is awesome! You are so lucky to have found an awesome vet! I have had it out with a vet before who was all about money.

I had a beagle a few years ago who was very very sick. Had a very high fever, and was in pain every time you touched her. She was in the yard and think she ate a large woodchip and it got stuck. This happened when my husband became unemployed so we didn't have a ton of money.

I took her to our typical vet and asked if she could be seen. They saw her and said they needed to do blood work (60$) and an xray (120$). I asked if they could take payments and told her our situation. She said no and I just snapped. I told her that this dog may die because she can't wait just a few weeks for the remaining payment (again, have been a customer for many years, so they know us). She said it's a business and they need to be paid.

Ticked I asked for an antibiotic and I will treat her myself and just paid the 30$ for the office visit and antibiotic.

I ended up giving her soapy water enemas with a syringe 4x a day, and within 3 days she was better.

You know, I just do t understand how someone can become a vet and not care about the animals, only tye money..

This ended up longer then I thought, but vets and money hits a soft spot with me, lol.

I'm glad you found a good vet. With ten cats and more on the way (that's right...they'll be more; you just can't resist
), you need a good vet. Ours has been very nice about working with us to get the strays at DH's friend's home spayed and neutered. He's giving us a very reduced rate. I love a good vet.

This is GREAT NEWS!!!! Your life will be so much less stressful with a vet that you can trust and one that puts your cats ahead of cost!!! With all the good you do for cats you deserve this!! I've had the same vet for over 20 years and NEVER got a follow-up call!!
for you!!!

That is fantastic! What a wonderful tribute to a doc that truly seems to be a treasure!

And so happy Ossie is doing well! Yay! How great, also, that they called to follow up!

Congrats on finding a great vet!
I am very happy with ours too. When we first adopted Genever, we didn't have a vet, so I just took her to the local VCA to use the free initial exam certificate. I just wasn't too impressed by them there. So I got online and looked to see if there were any members of the American Association of Feline Practitioners in Long Beach. There was ONE, in an office with 3 vets. So, the next time we needed a vet, which was a few months later when we finally realised the poor girl had Giardia (I didn't know such a thing existed because I never dealt with it), I decided to give that office a call. I loved them from the beginning. My vet is so good with Genever, and Dorothy too, explaining everything to me, taking the time to call me back when I have a question, and they also do follow-up calls, which I thought was really great! There's one vet, she's a new one there, the one who saw Mister, who I didn't like too much, but my vet and the other one, who we saw once in a pinch, are super. So are all the office staff. So friendly!

Just yesterday I decided to email them a big thank you for helping us through everything we've gone through the past few days with getting Dorothy and her HT diagnosis and giardia and everything, that they gave me another dose of Panacur for free since Dot puke it up the first day, they're just really good there. And I appreciate it. So I know how you feel to find a good vet, it's like with any doctor, you want to feel comfortable talking with them and feel like they have your best interests at heart.

That is so awesome! I know what you mean. Last year I had Mooch at the vet like 3 times in a month! First for worms, then a uti, then for constipation! All a result of the the worms! I hadn't had the girls to the vet in a while so I switched offices and got a new doc (same practice). I'd also never had to bring either of my girls in for problems, only routine stuff. My vet called me quite a few times to check on Mooch! She couldn't have been nicer! She was pregnant with her second at the time and I had to take Tressa with me to some of those appts. She was only like 2 months old. She was really sympathetic to having all that go on with Mooch with a newborn and all the craziness that goes with that. She was also great with listening and explaining things I had questions on about Noodles' care too. I say a vet like that is worth a drive and the money! But they are reasonable and only about 15 minutes from me so that is great!
