Any suggestions on how to get my cat to eat his food all at once?

I have to feed my two cats separately, because Gizmo always stops eating abotu halfway through and walks away. Then Willow snarfs up the rest of his food. I have been feeding them in separate rooms, with Willow out in the kitchen, and Gizmo in the bedroom. He'll eat about half the food, then he wants out and starts to wail.

This is becoming a problem, because it sometimes takes him an hour or more to decide he wants to finish up the rest. Half the time I end up tossing him back in the bedroom so he doesn't make me late for work.

It doesn't seem to be an effect of how much he likes the food. He does it with every type of food I've tried. Any suggestions?

give him less at one serving and another serving later?

I already feed them twice a day. They each get half a serving of the recommended daily amount in the morning and when I get home, which is usually just before going to bed.

Gizmo is one of those skinny little guys that never gains an ounce. I'm worried if he doesn't eat enough, he'll just waste away.

Try to take up the food bowls after he stops eating the first time. He won't starve himself, after a couple meals like that he'll get the idea that he needs to eat it all at once.
