Prednisolone for IBD

So today is day 3 of Plushy's Prednisolone treatment. He is on 4mg per day for 5 days then 1/2 tab each day for 5 after that, then 1/2 every other day for 10. So far I'm not seeing any improvement. How long should I wait? The reason I'm asking is because they are thinking of testing him for cryptosporidium and some other things, but they said to wait until we see if the pred. is working.

If you have experience with this, how quickly did you see a change and what did you see? Could the IBD be interfering with the absorption of the medicine?

Thanks!

The med is a steroid it basically is there to reduce inflammation, reduce inflammation increase the absorption ... It is a standard treatment , I have used it and normally within 5 days you see some changes( remember cats are like humans nothing works the same in all)... If you are concerned CALL your vet and talk to them.

Thanks Sharky. I have been keeping an eye on him I left this morning and I can't be home until tomorrow afternoon to check on him, but I am glad to hear I should be seeing improvement soon if this will work.

Pipsqueak used to have problems with IBD and the pred plus metronidazole always worked for him. Give the five days and then call vet if no improvement. Hope your cat feels better today
