This thread was reported multiple times and took a little breather from the board so the Moderators could review it.

It's really important for all members to be repectful when posting. There are a few instances here where that wasn't the case. Everyone posting here obviously has Belle's best interests at heart and it's OK to disagree and have a different opinion, but the cat was never in any danger and no one ever implied that the OP should not follow the advice of a medical profesional. It's not OK to jump on a member when they suggest something that you don't agree with if they are not causing any danger and are not dispensing bad advice.

If anyone ever sees a member dispensing bad advice where an pet could be in danger, please do not hesitate to report the post by clicking on the exclamation point inside the red triangle that is located in the upper right-hand corner of the post.

Probably in Canada things are priced differently, but I was in PetsMart today (in Texas) and I was curious so I checked out the Hill's SD prescription formulas---the I/D was $25.99 for 8.5 lbs. and $46.00 for a 17 lb. bag. I didn't write down the other sizes---don't know how this compares with what you paid.

It can vary from city to county environment also... Where I live the RXs seem to be cheaper than in the near by bigger city...

I wonder, do they do coupons or sales on the prescription diets anywhere?

I seem to manage to get a lot of my Wellness/Merrick canned on sale because it's almost always on sale somewhere. Maybe the same exists for Hills! That'd certainly help with the price.

I think Carolina posted a link earlier to the Hills home page - I believe they rotate discount coupons on the various prescription lines. I know I had one for $7 off either a case of wet feline CD or a 17 pound bag. My vet's office accepted it with no problem.

Ahh that's good to hear! Coupons are the savior of all grocery shopping, for pets and people.

I'll have to see if my vet will next week, too. I need to pick up another case of wet C/D and that $7 off on it would make the case cost closer to $20.

As was suggested, simply call around other vets and stores that sell script foods. You'd probably want to keep to something in Canada for online orders - isn't there a store called petland or something like that up there? Always look online for coupon codes if you order anything online.

I wonder - since you need a prescription to order the food, perhaps see if your vet can price match. Don't forget to include shipping costs, if applicable. Obviously, if you find a place that will sell prescription food without a valid prescription, run like the wind away from that place!

Royal Canin hypoallergenic food was a god send for my Scarlett. It was the only thing in the entire freakin world that she could eat and not get terrible, constant diarrhea.

On the other hand, when my Romeo got sick and stopped eating, the awful vet I took him to first wanted me to put him on C/D for no reason at all. I asked him why, and he said "Well, it's a good food" and looked irritated at the question.

Working in the medical field (though not the animal medical field), I'm very skeptical of the need for a lot of the things that doctors/vets do and prescribe. But a crisis situation demands an immediate response. If Romeo would've been willing to eat lobster tails and filet mignon toward the end, then that's what he would have been eating. I definitely wouldn't have minded some prescription food with suboptimal ingredients.

Look online for a source. Jamie is on a struvite diet and refuses to eat just one prescription diet brand. I found an online shop with a big selection that's cheaper than any of the vets around here, even with shipping costs. They asked for my vet's name and phone number.

Congratulations to the admins!

The potential of these forums will only be realized if as many posters as possible feel comfortable that they can post without the risk of being unjustly attacked.

I've seen far too many new posters chased off by exactly the kind of attacks in this thread.
