I had posted a couple of weeks back about Calvin not being himself and vomitting some while foam once and then a week or so later he vomitted some food and had some softer poop.

So the softer poop has continued. I called the vet's office and left a message on Friday to tell him about the tummy issues and that Calvin's been in good spirits, playing and eating well. I have not heard back from the vet.
From yesterday Calvin's been lethargic - if not sleeping he's just lying down. Not playing - not even with da bird and the laser pointer. He's starting to play with those but giving up soon after. He's usually a purr-machine but it's hardly there now and he'd rather be left alone than cuddle . He is eating well and pooped once this morning and it was his regular softer poop mostly.
His stool exam for parasites came up normal both times we did it.

I do not know how much water he's been drinking but he did go pee a while ago. So the issue right now (other than the long standing tummy issue) is his lethargy.

So my question is at this point what should I look out for? I will call the vet's office tomorrow if this continues. Any ideas what can cause this? He's 6 months old - had 5 days of flagyl and 3 doses of panacur in the past and they all helped his poop but then his issues returned. I do not know if this current issue is related to his tummy but my anxious self is not liking this. Will appreciate any insights.
Thanks

Hmmm....He could be teething. At around 6 mos they lose their baby teeth. You might want to check his mouth to see if his adult canines are coming in. Tumbles is always somewhat lethargic when he's getting ready to have a growth spurt.

As for the poop, what are you feeding him? We were feeding Tumbles Taste of the Wild dry and it caused him to have loose stools. We tried Metro for 2 rounds of treatment and that didn't clear it up, so the vet had us put him on Royal Canin Gastro HE (high energy) and since then, he's done fine.

He's eating well (touchwood) - in fact he ate a little more than he usually does. He did teeth earlier - about a month ago - when I saw the double canines before he lost the baby ones. I do not know about the other little tiny teeth of his. Also when he was teething earlier, he had bad breathe - not today.
He's eating wellness for kitten dry and wellness for kitten wet. Since he wants variety - and a lots of it - I have fancy feast fish and shrimp, avoderm chicken and salmon in gravy, trader joe's - the chicken and turkey ones.

Have you noticed a pattern with the loose stools and a certain food? You might want to start watching. Perhaps one of the foods is too rich for him.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
If he's eating, it's not as much of a concern as if he isn't... I'm with Stephanie in wondering if it isn't one of the foods.

I'm sorry, I don't remember which thread it was, but there was a discussion of kitties being lethargic during growth spurts. Apart from tummy trouble, it sounds like it kind of fits - eating more than normal, but not being as active - maybe a growth spurt?

(And kitties usually teethe around four months, though like all beings, each in the end has his/her own schedule).

Have you taken in a stool sample again for a fecal just to make sure it's clear of parasites? We ended up taking in like four for Chumley, and even though they kept coming back clean, it gave us peace of mind that we needed to keep pursuing other things.
In the end we used a probiotic (acidophilus + bifidus) - started small and worked up (he's at a human dose!) and took him to a holistic vet that put him on a chinese herbal that firmed up his stools in - less than a week? - where changing his diet and using normal meds for a couple of months hadn't gotten us anywhere.

I tried looking for a pattern food wise - found none. DH and I were just discussing that we'll try to limit his wet to wellness and some trader joe's and not give him much fish for the next few days. His stool was soft right after I got him and once on medicine he did fine for a few days. He did have 2 fecal parasite exam and they found nothing. I do have some of his fortiflora left from the 1st time I took him to the vet when they tried to manage with only probiotics. Perhaps will try giving him that. He has also been very gassy since yesterday.
I hope it's a growth spurt for my little boy

But he is playing more this past hour or so with DH after being all lethargic on me all day. I was just feigning hurt and insult since he's all fun with DH. He did have a bowel movement (and this was way better - I am keeping an eye and DH calls me "poop police") and he's more himself after that. He is surely gassy the last 2 days and having softer stool for a while, but somehow I cannot help but wonder if he was having Monday blue with DH gone for the whole day after 2 days at home. He is hubby's baby more than mine in some ways. He snuggles with me the way he does not with DH and licks me and kisses me more but he totally follows hubby around, wants to play with him more and hang out with him. So I cannot help but wonder if he was also having some anxiety.

Laurie...if this is not resolved in the next couple months, I think I will want to look to see if I can find a holistic vet - as you know I like that stuff. lol.
