Thought you guys might like to see the "interview" with Evie that will appear in the rescue's next newsletter. Of course, we're hoping she gets adopted before then. If so, we'll feature another kitty.

Donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t Stop Believinâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji] — an Interview with Evie

For responsible pet owners, itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s incomprehensible to imagine neglecting or abandoning our beloved cat or dog. Granted, there are some unfortunate circumstances, especially in light of the current economy, where even committed owners are forced to make difficult choices regarding their companion animals. Then there are cases like that of Evie, a sweet, sensitive little cat currently available for adoption through OAR. Her people chose to neglect and abandon her out of pure ignorance and irresponsibility. Evie hasnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t known much love in her life, but still has plenty to give. And, thanks to the many caring volunteers at OAR, she is learning to trust again.

Q. What do you remember about your first owners?
A. I remember that I loved them a lot and that I thought they loved me too. One day, though, when I was still a little kitty, they just put me outside and forgot about me.

Q. Thatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s terrible. How did it make you feel and what did you do?
A. It made me sad because I didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t understand what I did wrong. I stayed by the house hoping they would decide to love me again.

Q. But how did you survive?
A. It was scary, but Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m a smart little kitty and found a nice neighbor to feed me. She couldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t keep me, but I think she liked me.

Q. What happened to your owners?
A. I still saw them sometimes, but one day I didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t see them anymore and the house where I used to live was empty. I stayed there and sat on the porch a lot hoping Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d see them again. I still loved them and wanted them to come back.

Q, What did you do when they didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t return?
A. I started following people up and down the street thinking maybe I could get a new home that way. Most people just kept going, but I kept trying,

Q. How did you end up being rescued?
A. Itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s because Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m such a smart little kitty! One day I saw a lady feeding the other cats on the street where I lived and decided she looked nice. I ran right over and hopped in the back seat of her car! She was surprised, but happy to see me. She took me home and “fostered†me for a little while. I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know what that means, but it was nice because I know she loved me lots and told me Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d never be by myself again.

Q, Whatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s it like being at OAR?
A. Itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s great! All the humans are really nice. The pet me and hold me and tell me Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m a pretty girl. They even sing to me, which is my favorite thing. It makes me calm and happy. They also call me “Baby Doll,†my nickname that makes me feel special.

Q. Do you like the other kitties at OAR?
A. Theyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]re really good kitties too, but they kind of scare me because at my old house there were some cats outside that were mean and chased me a lot.

Q. What do you wish your owners had done instead of neglecting you and leaving you behind?
A. I just wish they would have loved me enough to take me with them. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m a really good kitty and easy to take care of. If that was too hard for them or they didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t have time, I wish they had found somebody who would love me and take care of me, not just put me outside and forget about me. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m a lucky kitty because I got to come to OAR, but some kitties arenâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t as lucky when their people leave them behind or just put them out. They get hurt or lost or other bad things happen to them.

Q. What kind of home are you looking for?
A. A quiet one with somebody who will never leave me, love me always, let me share their chair (or sit on their lap) and give me lots of little toy mice to play with. I hope itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s a person who sings to me too. I like any songs, but I really like songs by the Monkees, and my favorite song is Donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t Stop Believinâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji] (by Journey). I wonâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t stop believing that thereâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s someone out there who will adopt me soon!

I probably shouldn't have read this as I'm crying all over the place now!! Very Very well done!! If this doesn't yank on people's heart string then nothing will.

Eileen, I think it's great!

Of course my heart just breaks every time I think about Evie. I don't know what it is about her that's grabbed my heart - actually, I think it was her jumping in the back of your car. She's just so ... desperate... to share her love.

Unfortunately, we have completely the wrong home for her with all these kitties LOL. At this point are you thinking she needs to be an alone kitty?

Sorry, I digress. Back to the interviews - like with Bridge, I love how they highlight the kitty, but at the same time address something bigger, you know? Great job!

I love her. I wish I lived nearby......I'd take her home with me.

Prayers that she gets a good forever home very soon.

Thanks guys.

Between fostering Evie and her time at the rescue, we've determined she'd be happiest as an only cat. With time and patience she could likely adapt to a multi-cat household, but she's clearly more relaxed when other cats aren't around.

That brought tears to my ears. She's such a pretty little girl and deserves to have a good forever home.

If it weren't for the only kitty requirement... I'm happy to inform you that distance is only a challenge, not a problem, for The Kitty Fairy!
And OH to NY isn't nearly the distance some of Eileen's fosters have traveled to get to their TCS member homes!

That's true.
I've had fosters go to wonderful homes with TCS members in several states. Heidi's Ginger Cookie probably traveled the greatest distance - from Cincinnati to Denver. Last year two of my fosters were went to homes in Columbus, Ohio, and Louisville, Ky, both a couple of hours away. The year before that a couple saw my brother's cat, Jack, on a national Maine Coon rescue site, and took him home to Indianapolis, also not too far away. He's a really lucky boy, very loved and spoiled.

Eileen's fosters have been relayed shuttled across the country. If you really want her, I'm sure that something could be worked out that she could be shuttled across the states to your home. Lots of people willing to travel to pick up and drop off kitties for others to take further up the road.
