Plushy was re-tested and is negative for FeLV/ FIV and Heartworm!

I started him on the prednisolone today. He is on 4mg per day for 5 days, then 1/2 a tab for 5 more then 1/2 every other day for 10. I gave him one in a pill pocket and he ate it right up! I also asked the vet about the i/d food and Plushy throwing it up. She said with canned food a gradual switch shouldn't be necessary so I just have to try giving him small (spoonful size) bits frequently. I am waiting a bit to start feeding him the new food again because he just took his pill and I don't want him to throw it up.

For those of you that have done prednisolone, how quickly did you see it helping and what signs did you notice? I am hoping Plushy will be more playful again if this helps. He hasn't played since October so that would be a definite sign that he is feeling better. Are there any negative symptoms I should be watching out for?

I seem to have missed whatever you posted about Plushy before. What is the prenisolone for? Could you post a link to your previous thread(s) so we can catch up?

for Plushy.

Thanks for the good vibes! Here are the posts I have made about Plushy starting from first to last post before this one in case you want all the details but I'll summarize below too.

We are putting him on prednisolone for possible IBD. We have ruled just about everything else out at this point and the felv/fiv/heartworm was a re-test to make sure it wasn't one of those since he was last tested for these while he was still at the shelter.

He has lost 3.5 pounds (down to 6.5 pounds from 10) since August so we are hoping this is the answer because he is already so thin we can't really afford any more time. I guess we will have to see how the pred treats him and then we have to figure out what the source of the problem is.

the vet did tell me that many cases of IBD in cats can be controlled by diet but I'm so confused about the sequencing here. So I try him on Pred for a while... what happens when we are done with the 1/2 pill every other day? I assume I check in with the vet but what if it is a food allergy... I assume the pred will only help so much if the same foods are being given...? for example, if he's allergic to chicken. The food he was on had chicken in it and the new prescription food the vet recommended has chicken in it. We aren't ruling that out b/c he's still exposed to it right? Do I need to ask for a L.I.D?
