Traveling with Aya, Japan to USA, any Advice?

Well, I didn't get my contract renewed so it means that Me and Aya are going home to Vermont.

She has to go first as there is a pets embago here on account of the heat from May15-Sept15, and my contract is up July 29th. -Wah, 3 mos without kitty!... She's going to live with my folks who have one resident senior cat.

So, I got tickets, made the reservation for the cat too. Flying ANA from Okinawa on March 28th to Narita. Switching to United from Narita to Seattle. 2 hour stopover at Narita.

Arrive at Seattle, spend two days in Seattle at my brother's house. He's okayed Aya staying in his guest bathroom. He says the wallpaper will be changed eventually anyways...

On March 31st, Fly United from Seattle to Chicago (O'hare) 4hours, 2 hour stop over, then Chicago to Vermont.

Aya has to go checked from Okinawa to Seattle (no cabin pets in Japan and the long flight is 10-11hours). Then she has to go carry on from Seattle to Vermont.

This means I have to buy 2 carriers! One hard cargo case and one soft under the seat, I hope she doesn't kill anyone sherpa-style case...

For those of you who've moved long distance with pets, any advice?

No advice as I've never been through it, but good luck!

Wow what a journey - hope everything goes ok. My only advice would be line the carriers with a pee pad just in case of accidents. And do NOT sedate the cat when flying for any reason.

Do you usually use a soft carrier with her? I ask because I've flown using both with my cat and he did not like the soft one at all. The small hard one will fit under the seat so if she's not used to it already, I would just use the hard one for all the flights.

Carry some of her favorite treats. My cat refused to eat or drink at all (about 15 hour total travel time) but it's nice to have it just in case she does allow comforting through treats. ETA: Doh 15 hours not 10. I can't count lol.

My cat QT was ready to go to Canada from Manila. Due to other circumstances, plans were changed a week before her departure.
First, you must have all the vaccinations updated. Please check the US entry regulations for animals.
Second, the airline should provide you with all the information. Take note that Aya will be treated as luggage. There's no temperature or pressure control where she'll be put, unlike the cabin area for passengers.
Third, talk to your vet about giving Aya sedatives or natural remedies. It will help her calm down during the long trip. If she is given any, don't forget to tell your brother in Seattle. She might have to take them again for her trip to Vermont.
Good luck!

Sorry for the very late response, but rest assured, there is DEFINITELY temperature and pressure control in the animal hold!! No animal would survive for that long without it! Please look for the other thread in this section about flying with animals.
