I believe Kattie, my DMH, has a touch of allergies. She has always gotten itchy in the past and it comes and goes. In Modesto, the Ca central valley aka allergy capitol, she would get very miserable. She would constantly groom and scratch and make lots of scabs on her neck and near the top of her tail. I think she is allergic to something in the air as it seemed seasonal. We would give her a shot of depo medrol (which was last ditch as she was causing sores) and she would get better and the scabs would go away. Well we would try to go as long as possible between steroid injections as that is something I don't like giving regularly.
Well we moved to Wa and it seemed that her itchies cleared up through summer and fall, then in November, she got super itchy and caused those sores again. I got her an depo injection again as her last wasn't since Jan and she seemed better for awhile. Now, she is starting to groom more again and scratch. She hasn't caused scabs yet, but is still really itchy. I am wondering if there is anything natural or a supplement that I can give her for her itchies. It might be the food as it seemed to coincide when I added Natures variety instinct Duck and Turkey Meal formula to the dry mix. I am wondering if it is the duck. She has eaten duck canned no problem so that probably isn't the culprit.
It is weird though her fur is soft and shiny and no flakes like she used to have. She looks really good, I just notice her scratching and grooming more. It might be she is just particular about her coat but she will lick the air when you scratch her back. I guess I could get the depo again, but I would love if I could give her something more natural to combat her allergies.

Have you tried stopping the duck and seeing if the itching stops? That's probably the first thing I'd do. Have you ever given her something like loratadine (Claritin) to help the allergies? I have to give it to my Hannah to help her herpes stay at bay. I give her 1/4 to 1/2 of a 10 mg tablet once a day when she's sneezy.
