Last night we were talking about dogs and cats made famous in the media. We could come up with a few dogs, but only 2 cats. Maybe it was brain fade. Can you add to this list?

There is Garfield, and hello kitty of course That's all I can think to add...

ETA just thought of this other cartoon where there was a cat named Heathcliff...anyone heard of it?

there's also the characters from Thunder Cats..and the evil cat in Inspector Gadget

There's also Simon's Cat!

Felix the Cat..

Oh and Tom & Jerry cartoons!

Tigger was kind of a famous cat though not really a domestic cat..

The Siamese in Lady and the Tramp..!

Don't know if you'd count Simba or anyone from Lion King..again cat related but not 'cat'.

I remember Heathcliff and for Coronation street fans, the cat on corro Also most soaps and programmes have animals there, there was Bouncer in neighbours.x

Socks the White House cat under Clinton and Humphrey, his counterpart in the UK, under John Major. They both got a lot of coverage. I even have a Tshirt with Socks on it!

ANd all the cats in TSL Eliot's Book of Practical Cats, many of whom were based on real cats. They got their own musical.

Stimpson J. Cat, also known as "Stimpy" from Ren and Stimpy

Also these cartoon cats from Top Cat : T.C., Benny the Ball, Choo-Choo, Brain, Fancy-Fancy, Spook http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Cat#Characters However, the series only had a 5-month run and therefore relatively speaking they are not famous

Sleepwalkers - lots of cats in that and Clovis
There's also the cat in King's story The Cat from Hell which was adapted to part of the Tales from the Darkside movie.

Spot from Star Trek TNG


Andre Norton was a cat lover and featured a lot of cats in her books, too many to list.

There's also a lot of cats in various anime if anyone wants to use those.

There's a series of mystery books with a cat as helpful problem solver but I don't remember author's name or book titles.

There are quite a few series, including the Cat Who........... books (Lilian Jackson Braun) as well as the Mrs. Murphy (Rita Mae Brown), Joe Grey (Shirley Rousseau Murphy) and Midnight Louie (Carole Nelson Douglas) mysteries.

There was a wonderful cat in the book Coraline, but I think he remained nameless, or was called "the cat." And I remember a movie from childhood about a cat name Tomasina.

There was Kitty, but she died (in real life, too ) and they got a new cat named Joel. So there's 2!

I like Bucky! (from the comic strip Get Fuzzy). And Mooch (from Mutts). And, um. . .there's another strip on the comic pages, the lady has a cat. I don't know if that cat has a name but it's in most of the strips. Can't remember the name, though.

Edgar Allan Poe wrote a story called "The Black Cat". The cat's name was Pluto. There has been several movies made based on the story, and Masters of Horror-series had an episode made of it too.

In Disney movies (not yet mentioned) there has been a tuxedo kitten called Figaro in Pinocchio, another tuxedo cat called Lucifer in Cinderella and a red kitty called Oliver in Oliver & Company.

This lists it. I read it in that cat horror anthology back in '97 or so having recognized the story from the Tales From The Darkside movie I watched when I was younger. Its also been reprinted in a newer collection of his.

Mr. Bigglesworth, the Sphynx cat from the Austin Powers movies.

He has even been immortalized (though as a "Birman", not Sphynx) in World of Warcraft, as he wanders around the main entrace to one of the raids called Naxxaramas. If you kill him, Kel'Thuzad, the big bad, gets really mad and yells at you.

We also suspect that killing him in the game causes bad luck.
