Who Says You Shouldn't Play with Your Food?

If you have a kitty that:
1) likes to inhale his food and barfs
2) or is a kitten more interested in playing than eating
3) or is a bit overweight and just needs to slow down to have the time to realize they are full...

then you may be interested in the feeding station I setup!

For under $6 shipped, I picked up a couple Multivet Slimcat Food distributor ball/toys (kibble falls out as it rolls): http://www.amazon.com/MultiVet-SlimC...5680443&sr=8-1

And I picked up a couple Bergan Turbotracks:
http://www.amazon.com/Bergan-Turbo-T...5680924&sr=1-1

With the combination of their turbo-track, little cave they like to hide under (is just a cardboard box with a blanket thrown over it) and little food ball, its a high interest area for em, they get their nourishment w/ a bit of entertainment instead of burying their heads in a bowl, takes em longer to eat so they stop when full, and the ball is contained so no more tracking it all over the house and makes for quick and easy disinfection of that area from time to time.

Only complaint is that the ball is plastic, but its dishwasher safe (should kill all the bacteria), and just scoops right into the bag of kibble for quick and easy measurement and filling. Community can chime in if there are any downsides I'm not aware of, but really happy w/ it and thought I'd share.

Oh, using the track as a barrier is a good idea! Otherwise, who knows where the ball would end up?

That is cool!

I'm going to have to try something like that. I have a couple of the scarf-and-barf variety of cats.

I don't feed kibble, but that is one sweet set-up, Ducman. You clearly took some time to consider things from your kitties perspective. *chuckle*

I have four sets of those turbo tracks, two in separate, single-pack figure eights, and two combined to form a very long wavy track with circles at both ends. The cats adore them.

Cool. I couldn't get most of my cats interested in the kibble ball... except Archie would would bat it around incessantly until it was stripped of kibble. I was using it for treats.... and well.. he ate them all...

So the one cat who is a bit chunky figured it out.. the others would probably have starved.

I like the idea of containing the ball! That's why I had not previously bought one - I was leery of having cat food crumbs all over the house - not that he would hesitate to eat them!

What do you clean the floor with, knowing the cat will be licking that spot?

Every once in a while I will use my actual steam cleaner, but not just there, on the whole house.

For regular clean up, I just use the same little dispenser wipes I use for the counter that they always dance on Coyote Ugly style, but I don't recall the brand name.

I wouldn't be too paranoid though, they regularly lick poop residue off their butts.

wow!!! That is super !! Never seen that before, and will look into ordering one. I don't have any scarf and barfers at the moment. But they certainly are piggies. And Magilla still eats in her private room. ANd I don't know how I will integrate her into eating at the main pig house. SHe doesn't eat fast and would rather cuddle and play then eat. So for now she eats solo.

But this looks like a great, fun activity for the kitties to EAT and PLAY. Thanks for sharing.

I have a rather... oversized... kitty. It's weird because he doesn't eat much but I bet he would love this!
