As some of you may know, back in June I found two 6 week old kittens. Took them home & completely fell in love with one of them (Lears was his name).

Well, around early Dec. Lears began acting wierd & long story made short he tested positive for FeLV, we immediately tested his brother, Choripan, & he is also positive.

Lears lasted me only a few more days after the diagnosis, we put him to sleep Dec. 27th. Heartbreaking, but the FeLV had attacked his nervous system & he couldn't feel his back legs, he had constant facial twitching & I could tell that he was no longer the happy kitty that he was.

We are now left with just Choripan. He is big & healthy looking, but every few weeks he gets these downers. Don't really know how to explain it. He gets all lethargic & doesn't eat. Everytime this happens we begin to worry & think to ourselves "Is this the time that he is not going to get better?"

It usually last about a day or two, he then begins eating & goes back to being normall.

I imagine that just like humans with similar diseases, he may have his good days & his bad days.

has anyone had any experiences with a similar situation? We know Chori isn't going to last us as long as a healthy cat, but we will try to give him the best life we possibly can while he is with us.

I don't have any experience with FeLV. I just wanted to tell you, I'm so sorry that Lears died, and I'm sorry that Choripan isn't feeling well.

Thank you, actually Chori is doing better since last night. He spent 1 1/2 days feeling down & then he began eating last night again & by bed time he up on our bed.

Hopefully he'll stay feeling good for a while now, but you never know.

I still miss Lears dearly, every day I think about that little guy. He, by far, was the most affectionate, loving cat I have ever met.

Been there, done that.

Both Attitude and Nuts are positive. Attitude finally ended up with a URI that we couldn't find an antibiotic to treat and she crossed the bridge in Nov. Nuts is 12 lbs of muscle and heathy.

Nuts hasn't had any health issues at all. I also have 5 outside in my feral colony that are all positive and they are for the most part healthy. I understand the fear of the 'what if this is the last time' thing. It's not fun.

I enjoy what days I had with Attitude and what days i have with Nuts, even when he's driving me up the wall. That's the only thing you can do, enjoy te time they have. You also never know how long they'll be with you. For all I know Nuts might live to be 20 and die of old age and never suffer anyissues from his FeLV. You just never know. He doesn't know he's sick an neither do any of the others and I'm no about to tell them they are.

yesterday & today have been "up" days for Choripan.

He's super palyfull & very happy. We played for almost a solid hour last night before bed. HE walked all over us, our bed & our nighttables last night & this morning he was running around like a crazy cat, attacking my dog (who is a 65lb American Bulldog).

It's good to see him like this, you'd never think he was sick.

Back to the down days.......

Choripan hasn't really ate for almost 3 days now. Also, something that worries me ALOT, cause it happened to Lears is that 1 eye was dilated the other day (think it was Saturday) during the day. My wife also says that it looks like he's lost some of his whiskers. He usually pulls out of his funk in a day or two, but we're going on 4 days now..

Taking him to the vet later today.
