"Why hello there, I'm called Simba Yim. I am 18 months old. I was adopted from the North Shore Animal League of America on January 8th, 2011. For my duration there I was called Bean. They don't know much about my painful past, except that I was left in a box. As a result, I am terribly afraid of being in boxes and have no interest in boxes whatsoever (to the sorrow of April Yim who is a big fan of that Scottish Fold in Japan called Maru.)

In any case my new family consists of Yims and lots of adoring admirers. You may join them in their adoration."

That photo cries out for a posting on icanhazcheezburger.com.

Ahaha if you can think of a caption! The best I can come up with is "CAT WINK!"

Unfortunately he is very ticklish in the belly!

If I rub his belly he will try to play with my hand and either grabs at it or gently nips it! (Brushing is okay though...)

Thank you! Yes, I was happy to see he trusted me enough to show me his belly! And sleep like that next to me...

And to think we almost didn't adopt him because I didn't notice him.

We went to the shelter only to look around because we recently made the decision to raise our first cat.
We were interested in a Siamese mix from their website but he was far too mouthy for me in person. Then we played with a kitten who had just been recently spayed. She was very cute but I didn't feel like she was mine? Does this make sense?

While I was putting her back into her cage, which was next to Simba's, I locked eyes with him and I poked fingers into his cage. He gently head-nudged my fingers and laid his chin in my hand after I scratched behind his ears. I took him out and did the "rough kid" test (Touching his ears, feet, tail, and patted him a bit firmly to see how he would react.) He was his lovely, friendly and mellow self. I knew I had to adopt him. I swear that his personality was the deciding factor! His looks are just a bonus.

And now? He's sleeping on the couch next to me.

Congrats on your little one, he's is too cute!

Thank you!
We are very happy to have him (even if he knocked over some plants last week...) I think you are right. I hope those kittens we were considering that day found good homes!

Congratulations! Simba is adorable and it looks like he made himself right at home. I think it must have been the perfect match for both of you! I viewed your photos. Does he still stop and look at the fish? Can I please have the blanket that Simba was sleeping on?

Thanks!

Yes, fish observation is his favorite independent activity.
Everything else he likes to do in the same room as people (sleeping, playing, observing, more sleeping, etc.) He follows us from room to room if we suddenly get up out of one.

The first week he was here he would JUMP onto the side of the tanks and slide down the glass...
He's stopped doing that now. Thank goodness. I wouldn't want my fish to die of fright. (My mother has 4 tanks of freshwater fish.)

Oh my! Which blanket? (He thinks every blanket is his blanket...)

He lies on my CozyÂ[emoji]174[/emoji] (the brown one on the couch? It's basically a warmer and softer SnuggieÂ[emoji]174[/emoji])

And the pink blanket next to the fish tank is from HomePlus:

Hahaha I highly recommend them. They are cat-approved!

Thanks for the links!

I had a saltwater tank a few years ago and they would sit on the lid. I was afraid that they would fall in

Hahaha! I'm glad they never did. I can only imagine trying to coax a panicking cat out of a tank.
