Zoe was officially spayed yesterday. She was NOT happy about having no food since 6 the night before, and no water since midnight, but well, she dealt.

Though I think I was more worried about her all day than she was likely concerned :p The clinic we took her to has you drop them off between 7-8 am, and pick them up between 5-6. Well, we dropped her off at 7 (wanted to make sure she had time to settle in) and picked her up at 5:50 so she would have more wake up time.

A very sleepy sleepy kitty she was. And glad to see us (Well, me mostly as Braden was sick and huddled in the bathroom) Also, very very glad to eat. Though I portioned out her 1/2 portion of food over 3 sittings (2 hours or so) just to make sure it sat.

But mostly I got to watch my little obsessed with cleaning herself normally kitten like a hawk (I was overwhelmed with relief at seeing her okay, and they never offered us a cone as she hadn't been fussing in the vets) And try to keep Floyd locked out of the room as he had been meowing for her allllll day and just wanted to lick and play.

Today has been alternating which cat is locked in the bedroom (the door doesn't latch so we have to tie the handle to the storage room door.) and eying them diligently to keep them from wrestling when we try to have both out at the same time. Well, to keep Floyd from trying to wrestle with the normally rambunctious Zoe, who is still a little stiff adjusting to her lack of fur and trimmed claws.

They actually cut and filed her nails without asking us, it was nice. We've been struggling to be able to cut them, but she came home and now when she kneads us, it miraculously doesn't hurt!

But. Excuse my rambling. I just needed to tell it somewhere.

I've always had pets who are fixed, but usually its before I get them, or they are male. For some reason, this was so much scarier.

I worried all day when Luna was spayed. I was afraid something was going to go wrong. But she came home ok, with pain medication. She stayed in her carrier, so she wouldn't run around and hurt her stitches. She didn't complain. She didn't want to run around. She didn't come home with a cone collar, but she didn't bite at her stitches at all. After being spayed, she calmed right down. So that was 1 very good side effect

Plus I'm not so sure how good cone collars really are. Midnight had an infection from a cut in his paw pad, he had to wear a cone collar. The first 1 he managed to get off. The 2nd bigger 1, didn't stop him from biting his paw.

I wasn't worried about Midnight being neutered, I knew that would go fine. I was worried about him having to be put under.

No matter how little the problem or how big the problem your cats have, you'll always worry about them.
