My Cat doesn't like food with "lumps" in it.

Mackerel has always been really picky about what she eats. I'm becoming concerned though because I've recently begun to notice that she's very very skinny.

With her cat food, usually she will eat the gravy in the wet food and not touch the dry kibble at all.

Is there any way to encourage her to eat everything in the wet food? Are there any wet foods that don't have "lumps"? (I've tried given her minced food but she doesn't like that either.) Is there a problem with blending her cat food so that there's no lumps?

Will she eat a pate type food? It's smooth. If not, you can surely blend it and make it a mushy consistency. No harm in trying, that's for sure. My kitties eat pate food watered down, so its like almost soupy.

I've tried pate type food as well, but I might give it another shot and water it down. She seems to change her preferences every few months.

If she's super skinny, I might concentrate more on increasing the palatability of the dry food, and perhaps even try a kitten variety kibble.

Per volume, it has a lot of calories, and you can leave it for out for free-feeding if she's a nibbler. Once she's fattened up, then you can switch her back to an adult maintenance diet.

If its any consolation, mine aren't fan of gravy foods either and would only eat the gravy. Pate did resolve that, but they definitely don't like it soupy. Also might be a good idea to have different flavors available.

Has she been to the vet yet? A cat who isn't eating and is losing weight REALLY needs to see a vet. If the dry/lumpy food avoidance is a new behavior, she may have something wrong in her mouth that makes it painful for her to eat dry or lumpy food.

Thanks, I'll try the pate.

Willowy- it's not so much that she's losing weight, just that she's always been skinny and I've just started to see that it's probably not her ideal weight. And the dry/lumpy food avoidance isn't really a new behavior either, she's never been a big fan of kibble or lumps of meat. I keep an eye on her intake/output and I've always been satisfied with what she's eating and how much she's pooping, it's just that I'd prefer it if she ate either a higher calorie diet to put some weight on or we found a cat food that she really likes.
