My gut is telling me that this isn't an emergency, but I thought I'd ask opinions just in case. Yesterday I noticed one of my cats somewhat frantically scooting her butt across the floor immediately after using the litter box. She's never done this before, so I checked to see if I could see anything wrong with her anal glands. From what I can tell, they don't appear to be full, and there's no foul smell accompanying her scooting. She's using the litter box just fine, and appears to have normal stools so I'm also ruling out constipation. So I'm thinking that she most likely has some kind of worm. She obviously needs to go to the vet for this, but our vet is closed until Tuesday for MLK Day. As of this morning, she's been acting perfectly normal in every way, except that I saw her butt scoot once again this morning.
Then about 10 minutes ago I saw one of my other cats using the litter box and she has runny and bloody stool. She's also acting perfectly normal other than the bloody stool. I know several things can cause bloody stool, but I'm wondering now if its definitely parasites since now 2 of my cats are showing signs (different signs, but still signs) of a possible parasite. The blood in her stool is bright red and there were about 5 drops of it that I could see, plus a little mixed into the actual stool. I've already saved it for a stool sample, but if I don't go to the vet until Tuesday I don't know if it will do any good by then.
So my question is, is this an emergency? Or can it wait until Tuesday? I know to keep an eye on both of them and especially to make sure that the one with the runny stool continues drinking. Neither one seems lethargic. If anything changes in their actual behavior then I will rush off to the ER vet immediately. But for now, with normal behavior, is it ok to wait until Tuesday?
