thoughts and prayers tonight....it's already 11 degrees here. It's going to be the coldest night of the year so far.

This always stresses me out thinking of all those little ones.

So if you are inclined to send up a prayer or a vibe or good thought it might be heard.

Thanks

Oh babies, stay safe...
I hate thinking about ANY animal suffering. The good thing is, kitties are pretty good at seeking out warm places.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Yup. We're in NW NJ, and it is going to be a hell of a week. Gary is FREAKING out, and that's an understatement. Thank goodness the heated water bowl has held up GREAT. We were thinking about putting wet food in it. We made another shelter for them today, even though they don't use the Feral Villa. We've been giving them hot food all day, and have chicken broth ready to be heated up early am.

for all the kitties outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We don't have feral cats around the house. But we have regular outdoor cats that pass through our yard at night. I (hope) think their owners have been keeping them in, because I haven't seen any go by lately, when I review our surveillance system like I usually do.

It's blowing snow here - very gusty & cold, too. I try not to worry too much about my outside kitties - I've offered them the heated (50F) shop but they don't want anything to do with it.
I worry about old "Mama" Fafeena, who at 16 years of age must get cold fast.....but she has a heated pet mat & her very own purr-sonal heater (aka Fat Bob) to sleep with.

Anyways - hopefully your kitties fare as well as mine have so far this winter.

We all think alike don't we?

It's funny how even when offered warm places, they sometimes choose to pass them up.

Well, its morning here and its 0 out. The heated water bowl is still ice free although cold and not luke warm like it usually is. I will put some warm water in it. The kibble is gone and just refilled it. Probably it is helping out a possom too! Any and all critters are welcome!

I didn't have any ferals for 2 years and now there is a huge black cat and a huge long haired multi tabby coming by. Their footprints go into our two small barns. In one of them, I have 2 insulated cat houses DH made with straw and a reflective heating pad. I sure hope they are using them. There are tracks in and out of the barns so maybe.

Tomorrow its going to be almost 40!

Good luck to all of you guys in keeping our little ones warm.I would think the average temps should start to rise.....sometime!!! You have such good

There were two kitties around here pretty much all the time. We think one of our neighbors gave them children two more cats (those people want cats for their kids, but they don't want them inside because of their furniture *sigh*). One was a pretty little calico that we haven't seen now in a couple of weeks....and are worried about her. The other is a black cat who likes to sun himself against one of our maple trees in the back yard. We've started feeding him warmed canned food twice a day....it's simply too cold without something warm in his tummy. He doesn't want to be touched and that's OK. But he does come onto the deck for his meals.

Well it got down to 5F (-15C) last night. Our heated water was cool too, so we also replaced it with warm water.

No idea if they used the new shelter or not (liberally sprayed with Feliway and some catnip spray inside for good measure), but it's right where they hang out waiting for food and the openings face under the RV and under the porch, and are protected from the wind.

Anyway, the two littlest ones were here for heated chicken broth and hot food this morning. I've seen five of the seven (and "Stray" doesn't usually show up until around noon, and "Buff Boy" has no discernable schedule). *phew*

As I know I have mentioned before but in these cold winter days, I pray every night for Him to keep our kits outside protected against the cold. The next day after snow has fallen and I see paw prints, I smile knowing they have survived another cold night. I never forget the kits that have less than our kits that are warm at home with us, I know tho that they don't always survive but I hope our prayers help.

Over the river and through the woods...
My prayers go out for any stray, feral, or pets that are kept outside during this time. But, it IS amazing how animals can find somewhere warm! Last winter, when we got over 2 feet of snow in one night, we realized 2 of the barn kittens (about 6 months old) were sleeping in our tractor's bagger that was still full of leaves from the fall. They apparently ran up the shute and snuggled down for the storm. We started digging out, and heard scratching, and after much digging and snowblowing they had a clean path to the food and water. Animals aren't stupid, they know what they need to do.

But many and prayers going out to those that are lost and neglected. It's snowing here and they are calling for sleet then freezing rain. Not pretty for any furry creature that is trying to make their way on their own.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
My girls (Stinky and Black) are on the front porch at night and are free to come and go as they please during the day. Its not the warmest out there but its free from elements and the wind and I took my 2 carriers outside and covered them with blankets and put warm towels and sheets inside there for them plus they have a litter box, water and 3 food dishes. Black doesnt leave most times she just hangs out on top the wood pile looking out the windows but Stinky likes to patrol outside. She has a 'brother/sister' who lives in a groundhog hole and wont let anyone near but I take food out there for the kitty so it gets something to eat and doesnt have to go far to hunt. Thankfully the hole is under a building so the food is covered out of the elements.

for the outside kitties.
