HE clearly isn't content with being thoroughly naughty this week (weeing on carpets, getting me up early, fighting with the neighbours cats) - he now wants to be ill too!!

i popped out for 10 mins last night, came back and he was limping - at first I thought it was just that he had jumped down funny (he has two deformed feet, and if he lands funny on his back one, he does limp for a short while, as it is very sensitive), but it got worse during the evening, he started hopping, and then sleeping upstairs for hours, which is out of character. He isn't hopping as much today, but you can tell he doesnt' have as much strength in it, he wants to play still, but keeps lying down. Me and my neighbour have checked it and there are no obvious puncture marks, she thinks arthritis. I am just hoping it is nothing more serious - I have a knack of getting cats with leg issues, and I have had some serious things to deal with, and lost cats due to leg issues. He was supposed to be going to the vets on Tues, but am going to have to change that for tomorrow unless it gets better today, and I think I will ask the vet to x-ray it, as it is deformed, see jut what it looks like.

Thanks guys - he doesn't seem to be limping as much, but he is incredibly subdued (which is actually quite nice!!), so not sure whether to just leave his app for tomorrow and see if that limp improves even more overnight, if it is improving it could just be a strain.

As long as he's not any worse, you probably could wait for tomorrow. Just don't let him run around, and pounce on it.

There is still a slight improvement tonight but he isn't eating all of his food so he definitely needs to be seen tomorrow. He really wants to go out and can't understand why i wont let him. I forgot to say yesterday, he looks cute but you wouldn't want to live with him!

He has been hopping more this morning so he definitely has to go tonight, but I have been worrying myself silly - even an arthritis diagnosis isn't great, as both Metacam and Onsior say not to use for cats with gastro-intestinal issues, so I dont know how we would treat it - I can't get Seraquin into him, but I could probably manage anything powder form, I doubt he would even notice it in his food he eats that quick. My other concern is that as that foot is so deformed and we can only assume it is a birth defect as all his feet are affected, that things are deteriorating. Hopefully the vet will agree to an x-ray and we will know for certain then - and if it is just arthritis, we will have an idea of how severe.

I hope the report is good!

I've said it before and I will say it again: you are an angel for taking care of these cats. Not many people give senior or sick animals a second look.

Cosequin for cats can be used for arthritis, it is just sprinkled on the food. It is effective for most cats with mild to moderate arthritis.

There are adequan injections, I've heard are very effective, and now that they are done sub q instead of muscular, not painful to the cat.

Laser therapy will be my choice the next time I have a cat suffering from arthritis (I was going to try the adequan next, until laser came along) but from what I've been told when recommending this else where, laser therapy is not yet available in the UK.

Laser therapy is drug free, non invasive, doesn't hurt, and very effective. Oh and not too costly! At least...$41 for three sessions at my vet.

Buster. I'll be watching for updates.

Aw I'm sorry. You're such a good meowmy, I know you'll do what's best and with your vet you'll figure this out and how to help him.

Well things were better than i thought, as he had a couple of fights last week and it map such a sudden thing the vet is fairly convinced it is related to a cat bite, so he has had a convenia jab. He wanted to give him metacam but i refused which he accepted. He did say it would take longer to clear as we aren't using anti inflams. He said that if he is no better by the end of the week he has to go back on sat and the vet wants to see him again in a week. We have held off worming him as his stomach is unsettled and might get worse with the ab's. We did discuss arthritis he says we do have other options than metacam so we shall see when that happens and in the meantime i will try him again on supplements, we stopped them last year when tryin to rule things out.
