just saw the most disturbing movie I've ever watched!!

It's called White Lightnin', and it's about a tap dancer called Jesco White, who is a real person, and apparently the movie was inspired by his life. It was a Sundance movie, and Carrie Fisher (known for playing princess Leia in the Star Wars movies) was in it...I was soo dumb to play this movie and keep watching because I am literally shivering now that it's over, it was so disturbing and real. You know when you watch a movie that's so different from the way of life you're used to, for example all of my life I've never worried for my safety or anything, I've never been afraid of someone randomly causing me pain, because I've been lucky enough never to have anything like that happen to me. Well, this movie seemed so real that now I'm having trouble getting back to my reality, I just feel like a totally different world has been introduced to me, and I can't just ignore it and go back to playing with Jake before bed time and being happy. Anyway, excuse my rambling, but it was a powerful movie. After I finished watching it, I literally didn't get up from the couch for a good 30 minutes, just sitting there staring at the wall and thinking about the movie...
If you're into that kind of movies, you should watch it...

I hope you can forget it quickly. I don't watch many movies. I especially don't watch ones that show violence and torture to women. I can't separate myself from it. I think a good solution for you might be find a movie that is totally opposite and watch it, one that will make you feel happy and blessed.

Well after reading your post, I feel warned, thanks. A friend had said something similar about "Dancer in the Dark" about a woman losing her eyesight and then a person who claimed to be her friend betrays her, etc. Yikes. It would take a lot for me to muster up the courage to watch that one too. A lot of short films are disturbing like "Dog", where a British teen beats a dog to death because it ate his stash of marijuana. Because the plot was all over the place for most of the film, I had no idea what I was watching til the violent end. I wish I had read about it first then I would not have been shell shocked at the end or just not watched it period. Those kind of movies make me shake even if it says No animals were harmed during the making of the film

Hank Williams III wrote a song about that family. It is called "The Legend of D. Ray White." Jesco White is his son.

Will have to check that out. Sounds like that Black Swan movie that I still haven't seen yet but heard is awesome.

I miss the days when I could watch a movie and actually be drawn into it. Must be a sign of getting old, as I'm desensitized to just about anything, and unfortunately get distracted whenever there are factual errors or mistakes between scenes. I remember when I was just six though and got to watch a nightmare on elm street in complete darkness and was so scared I couldn't sleep hehe!

I personally like those kind of movies, they do make you think. It's too easy these days to make movies that have no meaning, and granted, sometimes movies are good for NOT making you think like an escape from the daily grind; the same goes for books.

A couple films that come to mind that I've seen that really effected me were Children of Men and What Dreams May Come. Children really disturbed me, and Dreams made me bawl like a baby

As far as Black Swan, Ducman, while it was an interesting movie, to me at least, it was kind of all over the place and I don't think I really got the meaning that I was supposed to get from it.... that is to say, I understood it and what it was trying to portray, but i was left feeling more lost? than anything. And not lost in a deep way, just lost

Holy smokes, I just finished watching Buried. It will be out on DVD Tuesday. Ryan Reynolds is in it and all I will say is it about Iraq and it is the most disturbing movie I have seen in a long time. Sad part about it, is it probably true as well. If you do rent it, the first few minutes plays with the screen completely dark and you are wondering if the movie is busted or something. Man, watch it with someone or something you can cuddle up with- and no it is not a horror movie, it is a Thriller and that's an understatement.

At least with that type of movie you don't feel as if you've just wasted two hours of your time, and sometimes you still feel their impact years later. Hotel Rwanda and Schindler's List come to mind.

I felt that way after watching Sid & Nancy. It's been years but I still wish I'd never watched it, there are images I'll never get out of my head. I know it's said that the movie is not historically accurate, but it left an impression (on what people on heroin are capable of) I could have done without all these years.

Yeah, Jesco White is somewhat of a local hero here in WV. I heard a rumor that he was banned from the hardware store because he huffed so much paint.

I've never seen the movie, but take it with a grain of salt in that it does not typify the entire state. All of the horrible stereotypes such as that one are derived from the southern part of the state where mining country is.
