Hello!

Our 9lb kitty has been spayed now for 2 months and her appetite is through the roof!! At first I thought it was temporary but it seems to be increasing. Before she was eating 5-6 ounces of wet food per day or 3 ounces of wet food and 1/4 cup of dry. Now she is at least double that. She cries and cries for food. She tries to get into food and she picks on her brother to get at his food.

I gradually started giving her more food and it seems like she is never satisfied. I'm nearly positive I'm over feeding her according to the guidelines however she acts as if she is truly starving.

The vet said a slight increase is okay, but we are way past slight. I don't want to under feed her but I'm afraid I'm going to make my kitty fat. When she only gets her normal serving she either cries til I give in or goes to find something on her own and I do not want her trying to get into the trash and food.

And I keep saying kitty, but I should note she is an adult cat. She is 2.5 years old.

Is a dramatic increase in appetite after a spay normal? How do I figure out how much to feed her? Even before the spay, if food was out she would eat it, so I'm not totally comfortable just going off of how much she will eat. ANY advice or thoughts would be helpful!

ETA: not sure if it matters, but she gets Wellness core wet and innova dry.

Luna wasn't a big eater to begin with, and that didn't change after she was spayed. She just got lazier after she was spayed. She's the only girl cat I've had, so I don't know if increase in appetite is normal or not. Check with the vet also because she could have a worm, making her hungry and eating all the time.

Thanks! I checked with the vet about maybe a week after her spay and the vet shrugged it off. :-( Are worms contagious? I have another cat, same age, and he seems to be fine. I haven't looked at her stool lately but I will separate her and see if I can get a look. Thank you for the suggestion!
