Hi all,
I need some advice, my sister in law who is well not a savoury person to say the least and always is in debt is in a situation that is making me sad. 2 years ago she had a dog that she couldn't look after, it was full of fleas and she couldn't afford to feed it, well someone called the RSPCA and it was taken off her, thank goodness. Well now she has another dog which I hear is well looked after as its her partners but she has a cat too, she is about 1 year old and an outdoor cat, of course not spayed and its pregnant. I am so upset as I know she cant afford to look after the kittens and afford to wean them and buy litter to train them and I know that when they have gone (she wants to sell them as she is desperate for cash) then the cat will be left unspayed again and it will end up pregnant again.
What can I do? she lives quite far away and I don't drive so can offer no assistance that way and hubby won't give her a penny because she just gets herself into such a mess all the time, I used to buy her dog food for the other dog as I darent give her cash but she lived closer then.
This really is playing on my mind. x

Researching and finding them a close and low cost spay/neuter clinic might help. Then they would both (her and her significant other) have that information.

Would your husband let you send a check directly a vet's office in her area to have the cat spayed, assuming she'd agree to take her?

Wow, I'm so sorry hun, I can see why this would prey on your mind. Researching actual places is usually a good idea, but if she sees this as a "cash machine," then I'm not sure it would help. Is this just an issue of being able to afford to have her spayed? Or is it that she won't do it even if someone else pays for it?

Because maybe you could combine the above two ideas, and find a low cost clinic that you make the payment to.

Any way her DH might take the cat - even without her knowledge? I know that's underhanded but....

I'm reading this to mean she is deliberately letting the cat get pregnant so she can sell the kittens. Is this what you are saying?

If that is the case, then I'm not sure what to say. It isn't against the law (except morally) so I'm not certain there is anything you or anyone can do.

I can get her a low cost voucher but she is lazy and wouldn't bother to get them done, I just know these kittens won't be looked after very well.x

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Personally if I could get away with it I would take the cat right out from under her nose let her have the kittens find homes for them and then take the mom to get spayed and rehome her.

I basically stole Ramsies mom from the neighbors house and come spring Ill be taking the 4 that need spayed one at a time down to the low cost clinic and getting them all fixed unless I get lucky and can find homes for the 2 outside kitties relatively soon.

Ok, just spoke to mil, she is leaving her partner and trying to find housing this way, goodness knows what this means for the kitty now. She has already had one pet took off her, would you report her? Its horrid because its family and I do kind of speak to her but when it comes to animals I just can't deal with them suffering. x

I figure things will be easier if she moves this way, just hope the kitty comes with her. Not sure how far pregnant she is, must be quite a way if she's showing. See dh isn't a cat lover really and he wouldn't put himself out for a kitty, whereas I would. x
