Can anyone here adopt/foster a special needs (FIV+) kitty in Michigan?

This is the post about him on their Facebook page:

One of my support board members has been working with him since that photo was taken -- he was so scared then -- and he's just a sweetheart.

They can arrange transport within about 400 miles of Michigan.

If you know someone who might be able to adopt him, please forward this message. Thanks!

I'll be thinking of Rufus and hoping he finds a home very soon.

Just in the last couple of weeks, one of my favorite cats at the shelter where I volunteer found a home. Calikono was at the shelter a long time. He was adopted by a woman with other FIV+ cats.

God bless her!

I'm hoping Rufus has an angel like that out there for him and he or she finds him soon.

As we know from people here, Ruffus could very well be placed in a home with other cats, as FIV is not easily transmittable. LDG for example has 8 cats in a RV, one of them is FIV+, and they are safe... This is a myth that can be reducing the chances of this boy being adopted, IMHO. If this was FeLV, sure, another story all together... but FIV is so much harder to transmit. My cats for example - they have never bitten each other, they have never matted, so how would the virus be transmitted? Simple: it wouldn't.
If this cat is not a biter and doesn't have aggressive issues, he would very likely be ok to be placed in a multi-cat home. That post is not fair IMHO.

Carolina is totally right, of course, about the transmission of FIV. It's just what we tell potential adoptors at the shelter.

But, still, they are reluctant.

A lot of people don't even know that. I didn't know that until LDG told all about 1 of her cats.
