Is anyone here really knowledgeable about cat food brands & ingredients?

Sylvestra & Felixia need a new dry food. I feed them a combination of dry & canned because Syllie prefers dry food, so I offer it to make sure she eats enough (she got too thin on a canned only diet). They're both senior cats with early CRF, but because of their food sensitivities they can't eat the prescription kidney diets.

Between the two of them, they are sensitive to soy (in any form, even soy oil), tomato & tomato pomace, and corn. I also am beginning to suspect a sensitivity to fish so I'd like to find a food without that.

Any suggestions for a decent quality palatable dry food without any of those ingredients? I live in the USA, in a fairly large city with access to stores like Pet Supplies Plus, Petsmart, Petco, etc.

Taste of the Wild is a good quality, grain free food. It's Venison and Chicken flavored. There is salmon listed, but it is the 7th and 9th ingredients, so it's a low amount. Ocean Fish Meal is the 9th ingredient. It's very hard to find a food with no fish or fish meal in it, all the gran frees I have looked at have at least fish meal somewhere in their ingredients.

Other good possibilities are Wellness CORE and Innova EVO. Sharky should be along to answer some nturition questions, I'm just putting in my 2 cents

At their age, and with early CRF, I wouldn't use a grain-free dry. There are some Limited Ingredient Diets that may be suitable. . .let me look at some ingredients.

OK, I only looked up a few, but Natural Balance LID (I'm not thrilled that peas are #1, but it looks fine otherwise), California Natural, and Blue Basics all look like they'd be worth a try. Of course, you never know how she'll react to the food until you try it.

* Disclaimer TALK to your VET prior to using any of this advise*
CRF cats actually do well with grain in the diet .... as it helps with mineral levels and protein levels ...
No tomato is going to be a issue as most "good and above foods use it usally as pumace...

Absolutely NO to a grain free outside MAYBE the LID s by Natural balance... Blues basic looks like a solid option...

The minerals and protein profiles are inappropriate In no grains for such cats ..

I've been feeding Blue Basics for a while now, my big kitten Merlot has some crazy food allergies, including but apparently not limited to grain allergies, certain meats, various odd veggies, et cetera. The poor boy has almost as many allergies as I do! All but one of my cats are on Blue Basics...they do really well, I love how they look and act on it. My one kitty Ember does have some issues with it, though...near as the vet and I can figure, she's still too sensitive to high-protein diets (she's been on crappy corn-filled junk for her whole life) and so transitioning her up to a better food has been a months-long uphill battle.

I'd say give Blue's Basics a try but do be mindful...there's two different kinds of kibble in it so when you buy it, shake the bag a while to make sure it's blended well...or do what I do and dump it into a clear bin so you can see it before you dish it out.

One we are NOT supposed to link to other forums and too that is NOT a site with truly researched stuff anyone can post it! Not to mention that list may be accurate in the UK but most formulas are not the same on the other side of the pond.

Plus THE OP s animals HAVE a chronic illness ... thus should be dealing with a vet not getting advise from a link to another forum

I take it the other kibble is the life bites? Yes very important to get the right amount as Blue puts the supplements in that kibble
