help? new to forum. Hypothermic kitten

Hello, I am new to the forum. Looking for advice about hypothermic kitten found this am. 2-3 months old. very thin. Current body temp 92.5 rectally. Has taken in about 4cc of warm kitten formula. Has had 1 episode of diarrhea and incontinent of urine x 1.
will get up and walk short distances, but seams out of it. still very lethargic. breathing ok on his own. not responsive to anything at this point. Is all of this normal. When can I expect to see some life return to him? Is there anything else I should do. Keeping him warm. Can kittens have brain damage or internal organ damage as a result of hypothermia?http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/ima...cons/icon5.gif

Hi, IMHO you really need to take this kitten to an ER vet now if you want him to make it... All day all he has eaten was 4CCs of kitten formula? That is such a tiny, tiny amount... Has his temperature risen at all? How are you keeping him warm?
As far as your questions of what is normal, the low temperature is not, lethargy is not, diarrhea is not, incontinence is not either... I would not wait to see it... Can he recover? I don't know, probably yes, but much much higher chances with vet help than at home without vet assistance... Especially if he hasn't gotten any better thus far.

I agree with the others that the kitten needs to get to a vet. However, you need to get him warmed up immediately. A cat's normal temperature is around 101. There are several ways to help him get warm. You can use a heating pad set on low, but you have to watch it carefully to make sure the kitty doesn't get burned. A safer way is to fill a sock with uncooked rice and heat it in the microwave. Put the sock on your arm for a few minutes first to make sure it didn't get too hot. Then put it in the bed next to the kitten. You could make two rice socks and sandwich him between them, then wrap the kitten and socks up with a hand towel or t-shirt to keep the heat in.

Once he's warmed up he's more likely to want to eat. Right now he probably doesn't have enough energy to even stay awake.

Let us know how he does.
