15 more minutes before I know for sure. They wait until the last possible moment to cancel and by looking outside it looks like it could go either way. I know it's still snowing like crazy here(small flakes) and has been all night.

Please please please let them cancel school today, I don't want to drive Bobby to school in this crap.

So far I'm not seeing too many closings in the area so I'm not hopeful. I know they don't want to have a 3rd snow day this early in the season but I really don't want to drive in this crap. They don't plow for crap here, even the snow routes have time to get icy and they are saying there is ice under the snow covered roads because all the roads are covered in snow just about everywhere.

Need snow day vibes.

10 more minutes and it isn't looking good, but every place here has a 5:30 cut-off for snow day declarations and they wait until the last possible moment to cancel.

Darn, looks like I get to drive in it since school isn't canceled. Oh well, it's only Jan there will be plenty more opportunities for snow days left. My 30th birthday(in 2009) involved a very nasty snowy blizzard and my birthday is March 4 so more than enough time for more snow days in the future. Was just hoping for the day off.

I know what it's like waiting for school to close! If it is too bad, why not let him stay home anyway? Better than getting in a mess on the road.

I know what you mean about waiting till the last minute. They do here, too. But they also tend to cancel (or send home early) at the first sign of a snowstorm. People in the New England states would laugh their heads off at us!

I have kept my kids home when the roads are bad, or if I think it is too cold. I would rather be safe than sorry

Should have let him stay home anyway. That's what my parents did. Did he at least get out of school early due to the snow?

Oh they probably laugh at us as well.

So we got a little bit of everything today. School wasn't canceled- it was on a 2 hour delay. And IMHO that's more of a pain than anything else. At the elementary level it kind of messes up their day. But then again- AM K gets canceled and PM K goes in an hour late (because the busses are needed to get the bigger kids to school)

At the middle and high school level it makes the school have to shorten class periods. My youngest- due to scheduling issues (she's got 2 electives, French and Orchestra)- has PE with 6th graders. The 6th graders today had a different schedule- so the 10 or so
8th grade kids that have PE at that time were 10 minutes late- and the bell was already shortened. So dd got to just sit around and talk.

And with it being about 2 weeks until the end of the semester for the high school- that really can be a challenge. Esp in the AP/Honors classes. But I guess it's better than canceling completly.

The roads didn't dry- they're still wet. So I'm wondering if the same thing's going to happen tomorrow ?

If I am afraid for myself to drive, I keep my kids home. There was one day when we had a blizzard that there was school but thankfully I had no work. I would not have gone in if I was scheduled.

Our schools only have three snow days per winter. That is down from the usual six we had in the past.

Lots of schools around here will do two hour delays especially if there are alot of rural area the buses have to travel. Many schools put snow days into their schedule but if they go over that amount school is longer into June hence the delays.

Jeez, yesterday they gave a three hour delay to the schools here in southeast SC ... and there wasn't even precipitation or frost on cars
The day before they gave a snow day to all district schools because of sleet that turned to rain.

My friends in North Carolina have been complaining their kids have had 3 snow days in a row now
Us northerners are laughing at how ridiculous they've been.

They didn't cancel because the high schoolers are having testing done. Paul's friend Darrell has a high school age daughter so this is the only reason I know this, Bobby is in second grade.

It wasn't so much during the day I was worried about(other than the fact that they only plow snow routes, my street and the street I drive on to take him to school are still covered, but technically the plowed route street is closer than the way I drive so I could use that, which I use for everything but taking Bobby to and from school.) I had a leadership meeting for cub scouts(I'm Bobby's wolf den leader) at 7 PM so I was hoping if school was canceled they might cancel the meeting. I had the meeting and ended up sliding when driving back to Paul's on one of the 'curves of death'(long story- I ended up in a cornfield 2 years ago from my defrost failing in my car and then almost hit a deer not even 24 hours later in my mom's. It's essentially 2 90 degree turns.) I was fine and didn't slide much(been driving in this crap long enough to know what to do when sliding.)

It's just cold now(sub-zero windchills) but the snow is going to stay around for a while due to the temps. We got a few inches so it's more of an annoyance than anything else.

Bobby has already missed a couple days(my parents took him to New York for my cousin's wedding) and then he's going to miss a couple days over spring break when we go to HI, so if the schools are open he goes. We live close enough that it is safe to take him back and forth if they are open. He's a straight A student so missing a couple days of school won't hurt him.

If it wasn't for the testing he might have had Tues off and they might have canceled the leadership meeting which would have been nice but it wasn't to be.

We're going to get some mix crap over the weekend. I'll take snow over a mix any day.
