I'm going to take my girl Brie to the vets this week because she has the same issue as this cat -

http://www.freyacat.co.uk/2010/08/te...the-v-e-t.html

Has anyone had this issue with one of their babies before? She's had it for about a week and it's just got bigger and bigger so going to call up and make a vets appointment in the morning

I haven't seen anything like that before
for brie

My first thought was perhaps she got stung by a wasp or a bee - but the swelling would have gone down by now. I was too chicken to touch the lump so Mum did and she said it was hard. It hasn't affected her eating or drinking but we all know how cats hide pain *sigh* thanks for the vibes

Aww I'm sending to you and Brie--hoping it's nothing serious.

Sending you huge vibes hun, I really hope its nothing serious and yes cats do hide pain very well.xx

Maybe a rodent ulcer? Or are they only on the upper lip?

I hope it is nothing serious, good luck and let us know how Brie does when you get a chance.

That was my first thought but surely the swelling would have reduced after a week?

I've had a cat with rodent ulcers before and they were different, but no doubt rodent ulcers differ in appearance.

We are off to the vet first thing in the morning, so I'll let you all know.

Sorry - I meant stung by something and having an allergic reaction.

Either way, hopefully you'll know soon enough and have some relief for her!

We went to the vets today. The vet doesn't think it's serious either a cyst or an allergic reaction to something but since she COULD be pregnant the treatments are limited. So we are going to try vaseline for a week otherwise she's going back to see if she's pregnant and if she's not she will get a steroid shot.

Thanks guys!

That's good to hear Sam!. That the vaseline does the job.

These kids of ours are a worry aren't they!

I've learnt not to google anymore because it can make you ill!. I leave it to the experts now

Even yesterday when i took Sophie and the vet said what the two possibilities were, for my peace of mind i still had to say "Your definite it isn't cancer!" just so i could hear him say it wasn't again

Thanks for the update on Brie. Is she a rescued stray? I didn't understand why she might be pregnant.

That's really good news and yeah googling is a terrible illness in itself, I have self diagnosed myself many times x

Ok, I don't understand why Vasoline would help, but what do I know! that it does the trick.

On the back of the Vaseline it says it's soothing? so maybe just keep the pain down while it heals?

Thanks!

That's what I was thinking too. Just to keep her comfortable.

The swelling seems to be going down a little bit and I don't think she's pregnant (Not really happy coz she's not pregnant but it will mean she can get a steroid shot)
