My Cat is a 11 yr old(aprx) MaineCoon mix. He adopted me 5 years ago and was a stray when he found me. Since he was an outdoor cat when he found me, I let him outside during the day. We will be moving to a new city soon and I feel that it's time to be an indoor only kitty. Any suggestions on how I can ease the transition. He's a spoiled boy and has me well trained.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

We rescued a three year old feral cat two years ago, and it broke our hearts because we couldn't find a home for him and his brother together. They were quite close. He definitely cried at first, and it was just heartbreaking. So you just have to steel yourself and fill yourself with resolve, that's number one.
Next is ... play a lot with him. Make sure there's a lot of stimulation. Put up bird feeders outside. We have feeders that stick to the windows with suction cups, and we don't discourage the squirrels, because they are total cat TV. Have comfy window seats.
Also, spray the new place with Feliway (though not near litter boxes). This will help reduce the stress. You may also want to use Bach's Rescue Remedy (flower essences) - a few drops in the water, and maybe dab some on kitty for a few weeks (behind ears, at base of tail, and under chin). This is not a product where more is better, use it very sparingly.
If he's used to going to the bathroom outside, I'd definitely have at least three boxes (at first) and keep them really clean. I'd also use Dr. Elsley's Cat Attract litter.
And to help with just the move, take your bedding and don't wash it. Have stuff going into the bedroom moved first, then release him in there and confine him to your bedroom for at least the first day, and put the not-washed bedding on the floor somewhere. Normal smells will be comforting, and you lower the risk of him escaping during the move if the door doesn't need to be opened and closed.
Even if you don't stick to the plan of not letting him out, he really needs to be inside for at least three weeks, or he may bolt, trying to get back to familiar territory.

Resist the urge to let your kitty outside when they cry at the door, and they will probably begin to stop begging to be let out. It is sad to see a kitty wanting to be let out, but you know that it is best for them not to, I had to go through that once Wessie was shot, but gradually the kitty will adjust to indoor life. I hope everything goes well on your move with your kitty and you.
