My wife has headed down to our local BCSPCA...when she comes home, she will be bringing home a new furry family member. Those of you who know me knew me when I posted up a notice on the "Crossing the Bridge" after the loss of my cat Sam who was very dear to me in November of 2009.

After a little over a year of being without a furry companion...I think I've finally reached the point where I don't feel like my heart's about to break every time I think of Sam. Now, I think it's the right time to bring another little kitty-cat into our lives.

I look forward to seeing the little kitty that has selected Heather (my wife) to provide her, her forever home.

Here's our new little girl who's coming home from Richmond today. Her shelter-name was Wendy. Now, I am going to ask Heather and the boys what they want to name her.

She was adopted from the BCSPCA adoption office in Richmond, BC. She'll be loved and she'll be in a new "forever home". But first things first...this is not my photograph...and she'll be getting a new portrait photo the minute that she gets home (with my D300s and 50mm f/1.8). The white balance on this pic makes me wanna CRINGE!!!! ~sorry~

Evidently she majorly "sucked up" already to my wife and kids.
I'm glad. The last one who came home from a shelter ended up gravitating towards me and putting my legs to sleep (sleeping on them).

The BCSPCA Advertisement that drew my wife in:
Wendy is a beautiful girl that loves to get attention. She is almost all black with a bit of white on her and she has been very affectionate so far. When she is hungry or wants some attention she will either purr for you or make an almost chirping noise. Wendy has been very outgoing since she came to us and would probably be very confident in a home with another cat if properly introduced.

Right now as I am typing this...Wendy is in my lap purring. Everytime I get up, she follows me and she chirrups. Judging from the paperwork that I read last night, she's 2yrs 4 mo. And when they said "affectionate"...they sure as heck weren't kidding. She slept on the bed last night nestled between my infant daughter Storm and my wife and I. She's "home"...and she's loved.

She's just beautiful. I hope she brings you many years of love and joy!

Thank you for adopting a black cat. They are just the Best! And they get overlooked so much. I'm always cheer-leading them.

Keep us posted!

Robin

P.S. I think Wendy is a sweet name. I always think of the one in Peter Pan - mother to the Lost Boys.

Earned herself a time-out in the cat-carrier for 15 minutes. Because she didn't feel like she was getting enough attention, she batted and nipped at my legs. A few sharp "NO's" didn't do the trick so I picked her up, put her in the kitty-box and let her whine for 15 minutes. She didn't do that again, at least last night.

Anyways...here's her new pic now that she's happily acclimated.

She's a beauty. Congratulations on your new furkid. I hope she's a fast learner and doesn't need any more time-outs.

just thought I ought to introduce myself.

I took a couple of pictures of her myself the other day...

She had hopped up into the chair by our desk so I just had to grab the camera.

Yes she is a black kitty
, but - don't know if hubby told ya, but she does have a splash of white under her chin and a few white hairs on the back of her neck/shoulder area. Maybe, if she is cooperative enough, one of us can get a shot of the white in her fur. And no I don't believe that hogwash about black kitties being unlucky...I've had several of them before myself in my teen years. And if my life situation happened to go bad at the time, well, that's just how it was supposed to be...not because I had a pet of a certain color.

ETA: Wendy jumped up on the bed a second ago as I was reading over things after this was posted...guess she wanted me to edit so she could say hi. So,
from Wendy

Hi Heather,
it's so nice to meet Wendy's Mommy.

I agree with you about our little panthers.
I adopted my Isis, another black beauty, from a local shelter.
She has brought nothing but joy, laughter and love into our lives.
You made an excellent choice when you chose Wendy.

We'll see you around the site.
