Question about introducing a new male cat....

I have a decision to make in regards to my current living conditions. My sister needs a place to move to and she has a male cat. I myself have two males. I am debating whether it would be easier to introduce all of them to each other at a new condo, instead of remaining here at my old one. Does that actually help?

My sister and I lived together a few years ago for about 4 months in my current condo. At that time I had only one of my cats and both he and my sister's cat got along. I now I have a new one who's never met him.

It would be easier to stay at your current condo and have your sister move in. The stress from moving would be compounded by the stress from an introduction. As it is now, your two cats would be much more in their element and willing to accept a newcomer instead of having to fight the newcomer over dominance in a new territory.

As it turns out, I'm going to be moving into the new condo. Deliberated long and how about it (for all kinds of reasons), but now I'm going to have to figure out how to go about this situation. How do we work this? My sister was talking about moving in first and letting her cat get acclimated, then I move in a couple days later with my two.

Just wanted to update about my move. Well the cats are getting along more quickly than I expected here at the new place. The first couple days though were a headache. My two cats were constantly hissing and growling at each other, which I found odd since they have lived together for almost 3 years. They were also doing the same to my sister's cat and visa versa. To compound matters, on the first night one of my cats decided to try and hide in the fireplace and was covered in ash. I had to give him a bath (which I had never done before) and I'm sure at that point he was just as stressed out as can be.

I'm now 9 days into the move and the cats are all getting a long fine. For the first few days I would mediate any time my cats were in the same room with my sister's. By around the 5th or 6th day I had all three of them on my bed at one time. I really did think it was going to be rocky first month, especially since all three cats are males ....... but it's turned out well thankfully.

If you had three FEMALES, then it would have taken a month for them to all get along. Males tend to accept newcomers much more easily than females, which is why many owners getting a second cat will go get a male cat regardless of what they have at home since at least the male won't cause territory problems (most likely).

Interesting. I never knew that. I just always figured male cats would be extremely territorial ones.
