Yes they are. I've had them a couple of times myself. They meant trips the emergency room because of the pain.
So there is so much snow you can't take her to the vet for a week? Is that right? If it is, that's a problem.
You could try washing out her eye with a flow of saline solution which they sell in bottles (sterile) at drug stores, if you can get to one of them. It would definitely be a two person job. One to hold your cat and one to open the eye a bit with two fingers and squirt the solution in. A cat bag would be a good thing for this. She won't like it, but if it is a foreign object, it may do the trick.
I'd probably call my vet anyway and see what advice you can get.
