For the last 2 days, Sami's had one watery eye that she's been squinting. I looked and didn't see anything in her eye but she is uncomfortable with it anyway. Could it be an infection? Or maybe something I can't see? Her and Parker are having an appointment made this week but is there anything I can do in the meantime to help her eye?

Thanks!

Cats can get a hair stuck in their eye similar to us getting an eyelash caught in there. Since cats can't physically remove it, their eyes water much more than humans' do in an attempt to work it free. The hairs usually work themselves out within a ouple days, so this may not be the issue, but I saved a trip to the vet when I took an extra close look at Memphis' eye and saw a hair on it.

You can try a warm compress on it. It could be something as simple as allergies, too. This happens frequently at our house. Since I give my girl lysine, I just up her dose. For Tumbles, I give him a dose twice a day for a few days and he's good to go.

It could be the beginning of a cold. That's what Midnight's eye did and we took him to the vet, he had a cold.

I suppose it could be a cold. No other symptoms so far. I tried to get a closer look today to make double sure there wasn't something in her eye but she wasn't cooperating very well, so I just let her go. She started rubbing it with her paw and seemed to irritate it more, now her eye is staying mostly closed. Maybe not be able to get to the vet till the weekend with all this snow we're getting. Hopefully it feels better soon. Poor old girl.

Sounds like something's in her eye, maybe an eyelash or a speck of dirt. It's important to have the eye examined to be sure it's not scratched, especially if she's rubbing it. Callie used to do that when she got an eyelash in her eye.

Yes they are. I've had them a couple of times myself. They meant trips the emergency room because of the pain.

So there is so much snow you can't take her to the vet for a week? Is that right? If it is, that's a problem.

You could try washing out her eye with a flow of saline solution which they sell in bottles (sterile) at drug stores, if you can get to one of them. It would definitely be a two person job. One to hold your cat and one to open the eye a bit with two fingers and squirt the solution in. A cat bag would be a good thing for this. She won't like it, but if it is a foreign object, it may do the trick.

I'd probably call my vet anyway and see what advice you can get.

Keep us posted, please. Poor, baby.

We just had a snowstorm today. My vet is about 30-45 mins away in the country, so its very hard to get to in snow and there is another storm on the way. We are keeping a close eye on her for now and if it doesn't get any better, I'll have to take her anyway. I would take her to a closer vet but they all charge an arm and a leg. At least with my vet, I know I can have her looked after for next to nothing, especially since this vet is the one who found her 16 years ago with her kittens

I can probably try the saline solution in the meantime. I'm not worried about her fighting too much because she doesn't have that kind of energy anymore. Thanks for the suggestion!
