My 4 year old male neutered cat recently began hopping up on our bed and peeing on us! He does not do it when we are away, only when we are in bed! He has done this 3x - one time on me, one time on my husband, and one time on me in a different bed! Any ideas as to why he would do this? He usually sleeps with us every night....my daughter did bring home her neutered male cat over the holidays and that cat did lay on our bed. Help!!

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

First off, he needs to go to the vet to rule out a urinary tract infection. Secondly, you need to clean the bed with an enzymatic cleaner to remove the urine smell. You may also want to get some Cat Attract litter to use in the box to encourage him to use the box.

Stephanie's right. The number one reason cats pee out of the box is a medical reason. The stress of the holidays could have triggered a urinary tract infection, or a build-up of crystals in his urine. The vet needs a urine sample (they can probably express his bladder there). That's always the first thing to check.
If he's marking because the other cat slept on the bed, Stephanie's right about the solution. Everything must be cleaned with an ENZYME cleaner, and any pee that got onto the mattress MUST be soaked. Cat pee wicks, and you have to get the enzyme cleaner to the same places the pee went. Soak the area, let it sit 15 minutes, blot up excess, and then cover with a folded towel so you can make the bed, and it must air dry. Change the folded towel daily. With mattresses, it's really best to give them a second treatment, just to be sure. If his peeing is behavioral, then the only thing that will solve it is completely removing the smell of urine from the area, because that just encourages him to continue using it.
The cat attract litter will help re-attract him to the litter box while the enzyme cleaner is doing its work.
But please makes sure he doesn't need medical attention. Cats can stress pretty easily, and their bladders are often where the stress manifests.

for the advice - I have an appointment for him already. Is there a specific brand of cat litter that has a special additive to attract him to the litter box?

Yes, it's called Cat Attract. They sell it as Petsmart for sure, other places I'm not sure about. There's a litter and an additive. . .try the litter first, evidently it's a bit "stronger". Then eventually you can switch back to his regular litter with the additive put in.
