washing a cat;s butt video

this is the way I do it

http://s116.photobucket.com/albums/o...8-16-40-21.mp4

on the video this cat did not actually need a wash but i did not know that - she just had some stuck on the back of her leg

sometimes giving a full bath is not necessary and it is time consuming to dry a cat properly so it does not catch a respiratory health problem

the first time I tried this I held the front paws and supported the cat's head by clutching the skin in back of cats neck [this is a disabling hold as when its mother grabs it that way when it is a kitten it signals to the cat to stop struggling]

hubby held tail and back legs and guided backside under the water and maybe applied some liquid soap if needed

I use the tap water on strong flow so the water will dislodge any turds without me having to touch them myself

by the 3rd time doing it this way the cat lets me do it all on my own and just needs an occasional kiss on the forehead as reassurance that I am not trying to drown it lol and I speak softly to the cat throughout

I have found that all our cats [and I have owned over 20 over the years] when they have the runs will come and stand in a way that I have to see they need a clean

I was reading a paper on the floor and the cat backed up to my face just about

and another time I was snoozing and the cat jumped on me and turned round so its butt was in my face just about - I pushed her off me but she jumped right back on me and did not sit on me like normal but just stood there showing me she needs a clean

usually i dont bother drying the cat after this - though you can if you want to

cats prefer their butt washed for them if they are too dirty to lick it clean

Wish I had seen this last weekend, when Midnight diarrhea'd all over his carrier and himself, in the car waiting to leave the vets.

Usually if Wessie gets anything stuck to his backside, I take a piece of toilet paper and pull or wipe it off. If it is very difficult I use a wet wash cloth. Cool vid!

That does look like a good way. I've had cats that actually like baths...believe it or not. Then, I've had them that turn into monsters (killers is more like it).

I take my cats into the shower with me when they need to be washed - they seem to prefer to be showered than immersed in a tub

some babies are like that too - afraid to be immersed

I actually take my cat and put its paws on my bare chest and let it snuggle her face in the crook of my neck under the shower - it is a special moment

i find the butt washing is good when they have sticky mess that the tap on strong jet will wash off without me having to touch anything lol and it is good because there is no need to dry the cat - it is a small enough area so the cat can take care of it all on its own

it is excellent when the cat makes a mess of itself at 3 am in the morning and you dont want to be up for hours - a quickie rinse under the tap and you can be back in bed in 10 minutes

Lynxx was very good with baths. He let us do it at home. We had no choice with Luna her first night here. She was good about it. Just sat there, didn't fight us. Midnight his first night here he got bathed, he didn't fight us to much, but he screamed letting us know he was scared. A couple of weeks ago we had to bathe him again, and he went nuts, ripped us to shreds, because most of his Soft Paws were off at the time.

We have a grooming place 15 minutes away. They've bathed Luna and Midnight before for us, and their not all that expensive. So we'll just stick with them. Luna did have a bath down and Petco once, and she did good there to.

If I tried that with Swanie, I had better be prepared for a trip to the ER

LOL - Blue would kick my butt if I tried that! He is a sweet cat, but water and the vet are two things he will not tolerate!

Are you sure she isn't doing that because she's scared?.
