giving up?

Our 17 yr old male cat has an ear that has gone floppy. He has an area inside it that has a hematoma that has caused the ear to go this way. We put him on antibiotics and he is recovering. It does not bother him, we keep both ears clean.

Here is my issue from this problem.

Ever since the ear started our old man is showing signs of his age and has come to sleeping with me at night. This is MY husband's baby. Anytime my husband had to travel to Miami, the car rode down in his lap. The old man has given over to letting the second male sleep in his old spot next to hubby. I'm not sure if this is to not feeling good, or knowing he can no longer fight for his spot as the alpha male. This has hubby nervous, because he has had Satin from a kitten.

Any ideas gang?

Thanks

Well, I have a couple of seniors and yes, they tend to be less active and more apt to have health issues. They don't bother much about territory or what. The other cats will sometimes try to play or bully my oldest one. In her younger days, they would not dare, but now she walks away, finds a secluded spot and sleeps. It's not giving up but a normal behavior.
