What would you do?

So I adopted the boys, right?? I was told by their foster mom when she dropped them off that when she came back to get the payment and paperwork that she would bring all of their vet/shot records. Well, it ended up that the person that runs the rescue wanted to get the paperwork and payment instead, so no records. That was on the 29th. On the 31st I asked her by email about the records and she said that the foster mom was going to put them in the mail. That was 8 days ago. Here, if you mail something, it gets there the next day. We (the lady that runs the rescue and I) were having an email conversation yesterday, and I eventually asked her about the records again and she completely stopped emailing me. Since we will be moving in 9.5 weeks, I REALLY need their shot records and proof of negative FIV/FeLV. Supposedly they are both negative for both of those, and have had all their shots except rabies.

I don't know what to do. Any suggestions??

I'd call, and keep calling, daily or more often, until I got results. I'd call the head of the rescue, because, it seems to me, that the foster mother already showed herself to be pretty flaky. The head of the rescue may not have e-mailed you because she is trying to get answers from the foster mother.

At least they should be able to tell you the name and how to reach the vet who did the shots and tests so you can get the info from them.

Geesh!

Has anyone come to get the payment and paperwork signed? If not, I would refuse to pay until they bring the records. I would keep calling, not just email, every day until you get some answers. As Robin said, if you can get the name of the vet they should be able to give you a copy of the records directly. for a quick resolution.

Yes, they have already received the paperwork and payment. I didn't think at the time that getting the records would be a problem. This rescue has been such a PITA!!

Okay, so just keep calling. Hopefully you'll get to talk to a real person, and make sure you get the name of the person each time. Keep a record of every time you call, and follow up with an email so you'll have some kind of written record. You can always offer to go to the shelter to pick up the records so they don't have the excuse that it isn't convenient for somebody to bring them to you.

And, in all honesty, I'd probably go to my own vet and have everything re-done. I actually did have a full exam and tests done at my own vet, and I did get all my paperwork when I picked up my two from the shelter.

I would request from people higher up that you need copies of the paperwork for your vet records and for travel.

There is no one higher. The person I've been emailing back and forth with is the person that owns and runs the rescue. The foster mom has completely stopped corresponding with me, both by phone or email.

Why would they withhold the documents after you've already paid the adoption fee? It makes me wonder if maybe they didn't have all the tests and immunizations done that they said. Do you know which vet or vets the rescue uses? Maybe you could call around and find out if any of the local vets saw your cats.

I have no idea why they would do that either. The owner said that the vet I took them to for Walter's eye was the vet they usually use, but who knows if they got their shots or testing done there. I guess I can try calling on Monday and asking about it under their names they had before I adopted them. Will they release the records to me, though??

I don't believe that vets have the same confidentiality issues as medical doctors. Anyway, if you take the adoption papers in to prove that they're your cats, I would think that the vet would give you the records without any questions. Especially since you've already taken Walter there. I hope that works for you. Then you wouldn't have to deal with the rescue any more.

I know it's a lot of money, but truthfully if I were you, I'd take them to my own vet and have the tests redone, just incase.

See, but that's why we adopted through them, b/c they swore they were both tested and negative, all shots but rabies, and neutered. *sigh*

If you know their vet, I would go up there and speak with the vet and/or staff to get the records.

You have adoption records ? Even a paper saying you adopt them with payment info? If so you should be able to get records if you know the vet the foster mom or the rescue uses... Vets do Have similiar privacy protacol to drs it is just a matter of proof with most vets who with adoptions are more flexible

I had a simliar issue with my pups adoption and even though I use the same vet I had to give them the adoption papers prior to them releasing info

That's another thing...I don't have any physical proof that I adopted them. I don't have any paperwork stating that I did. All of the paperwork I filled out was taken by them, they didn't give me anything signed by them stating that I did indeed adopt them from the rescue. I also didn't get a receipt or anything from my payment. The more I type this out and think about it, the more discouraged I get. *sigh*

Aw hun! I hate receiving things like that late. I know it's not the same but I ordered a set of homemade greeting cards for someones Christmas present and they arrived yesterday I would just keep hounding the lady until you get some answers or like you suggested call the vet and see what info you can find under their previous names.

Talk to the vet before getting too worked up, it might be easily solved with one phonecall.
