Question of the day, Friday, Jan 7th

Hi everyone, it's my turn again to post the QOTD and my question today can be a little heated, but I'm curious what people think

Do you believe people are monogamous by nature, or have become so due to the culture we grow up in?

Oh dear, it's "deep" I probably wont make any sense.

I "feel" monogamous by nature, but that's because I have no desire to "waste time" on other people. I'm happy with one person and couldn't imagine being polyamorous. BUT, this feeling could also just be because of the culture we are in, though

I think women are monogamous by nature.
Men, like most mammals, I think are hardwired to reproduce as often as possible with as many mates as possible to ensure progeny.

Culture and society of course play a huge role in how we cope with and/or manage our base instincts though.

My answer is, of course, IMO and is a generalization of human nature, not gender bashing.

But there's also the fact that when a man is in a committed relationship, especially if there are children (and strangely having pets produces some of the same effect), testosterone levels decrease.

But yeah, women it's more in their favor for raising children.

IMO, people aren't as monogamous as they used to be. Then again, maybe they're just more open about it.
I agree that women seem to have an easier time staying with just one man than men do of staying with just one woman.

That really is a deep question for a Friday!
