My sister lives in Port Stanely.. and on the 22nd of December, her two cats went missing.

Christmas morning, she called saying she knew what happened to them, but there was no proof. But the cat's are GONE. These cats stuck close to home.. there's only one thing.

I don't know if anyone has heard of this yet... but something needs to be done! These guys are totally denying that they killed all these animals. But they are all gone.. they don't just disappear like that.. all at the same time.

Oh my goodness, your sister must be so worried! Poor kitties... hopefully they just went on an adventure and will show up soon.
It's not that strange that a cat would go away from home even if they stayed close for a long time, but since so many cats disappeared on the day of the asphalt spill, it does seem as if that is the most likely conclusion. Just keep hoping for the best!

Thats no good!

Although I dont think that any one or two persons should be blamed for killing the cats. They didnt go out and shove the cats in the hot asphalt. It was an industrial accident that could have happened anywhere, at anytime, and hurt anyone.
Stories like these make me know I made the correct decision to always keep my boys inside!

How saddening
I do hope your sister's kitties were not involved. What a horrible freak accident.

Also reinforces my feelings on keeping my boys inside. Monte was hit by a car and that changed life for any subsequent cats - and stories like this remind me of all the uncertainties outside animals can get into.

Why would all those cats be in the moat? One or 2 having the bad fortune to be in there at the time of the spill, sure, but 7-14? I doubt it. Unless there was cat food or something else to attract them to hang out in the moat. Even then, asphalt flows fairly slowly, and if there was any way out of the moat, you'd think the cats would have gotten out before the asphalt got to them.

I hope your sister's cats show up!

It's stories like this that make me a firm believer that cats should be kept inside where it's safe.
I completely agree.
Those poor little darlings...

Yes my cats are all indoor as well.

The cats are attracted to the heat the tar bins give off. My sister says, on any given day (in the winter) that there is anywhere from half a dozen or more sitting around the tar bins. She lives two blocks and walks past it on a daily basis.. she see's them everyday. Unfortunately, no cats have been seen since the spill.. and 14 cats are missing. They are probably all sitting at the bottom of the metre deep rock hard tar.

The thing is they are totally denying it at all. But there is really no explanation for it. They hauled one cat out and took it to the vet where it later died.
