She doesn't seem to like him

Hi!

I've had Libby (5 year old Maine Coon) since she was 8 weeks old. I got her with an ex. They would play and she would bite and snap every so often but for the most part they were okay. Well, we broke up....eventually after some time on my own I moved in with a room mate. My roommate was female (like me) and Libby maybe hissed at her twice (which is NEW) and that was that. Eventually Libby was fine around her and my roommate did not pester her.

Now, I am living with my new boyfriend. He always wants to play with her, pet her, see what she is doing as if it is his child. 40% of the time Libby loves the attention, but then the other 60% she is hissing at him, batting at him, biting, and running away. Sometimes it seems playful. Sometimes not! Also, she does this thing where when I come home she leaps into my arms and she does that to him every so often. Then there are times where she hisses at him, rolls over to be pet and licks his hand followed by another hiss and a bite.

What is going on?? Is there anything we can do to make this hissing stop, it seems so mean of her HAHAHAH!!!!

Thank you for the welcome

She started doing it once we moved in, 2 months ago. When I was in my old apartment and he just came over she kept her distance. Also, if I call her she comes RUNNING to me, when he does...nothing. I mean, it is kind of humorous, but I hate the hissing and I think it makes him feel bad.

It's took a year for smooch to stop hissing and biting me is give it more time for her to come round and accept your boyfriend

Your cat just isn't used to the needling way your boyfriend pesters her. 5 years old is almost to "mature" and it sounds like he is trying to play with her like a kitten. Maybe if you could tell him to pick and choose the times he 'pesters' her, she would stop hissing because I think she's just feeling pressured or claustrophobic with someone relatively new being so close for so long.

I was thinking maybe your boyfriend is trying too hard with her. Cats like interactions to be their idea. Have him try ignoring her and letting her choose when and how they interact for a little while. She may decide that he's cool and let him get away with more after that!
