Have you been following this creepy story?
Officials probe 'unusual' mass deaths of birds in two states

Quote:
Some of the nation's top experts Tuesday were looking for clues into sudden, mass deaths of birds in two states over New Year's weekend. "This one is unusual because of the time period over which so many birds died," said LeAnn White, a field investigator with the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The center, part of the U.S. Geological Survey, is receiving samples from Arkansas, where as many as 5,000 red-winged blackbirds and starlings fell from the sky in a square-mile area in less than an hour on New Year's Eve, according to the Arkansas Fish and Game Commission.
The center will also examine samples from Louisiana, where 500 red-winged blackbirds, starlings and grackles were found dead in Labarre.

It certainly is odd. x

I think its very strange, I don't think I've heard anything like it before
post #4 of 35
It is very odd they all died at exactly the same instant.

It kind of creeps me out.

It is scary. The only thing that makes sense to me is a gas cloud.

I heard about the story too, and believe them when they say that fireworks could have startled them.

I was asleep at midnight on New Year's eve and was woken by the sound of a flock of geese going over our house....really strange for the middle of the night.

But if it were fireworks, that doesn't make sense. Birds roost at night, and that's when the fireworks went off I presume, at midnight. Didn't these birds fall out of the sky in the daylight?

I will have to find more information as to when they appeared.

this is a Tragedy........

Also didn't some fish mass die off in that town's vicinity too?
I am not buying the firework thing or I would see mass die offs all the time in my part of the world around New Years and 7 days before and during the 4th of July.

It's the terrorists (or aliens) doing a test run on how they could kills thousands of us at a time, and take over our property and our lives.

The ones in Arkansas died around midnight. The tests so far says it was blunt force trauma. Since this species flock closely together, they think they were startled and became disoriented and flew into each other and things.
Not sure about the ones in Louisiana though.

But seriously though, this whole thing is so bizarre....

Just my opinion, but if that were true, then we would have seen this before during holidays like the 4th of July. I live in fireworks central, and have never heard of a case like this before.

I really hope they find what is killing these birds.

Me too, and seriously I hope that people aren't in danger.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the mass bird deaths?

http://www.aphis.usda.gov/wildlife_d...arlicideTN.pdf

Would it show up in the necropsy?

Recently, there was also a mass die off of 100,000 fish (mainly drum) over a short stretch of a river in Arkansas. They aren't sure what caused that either.

With the birds I'm thinking either they were killed by being sucked into a storm or by a cloud of methane. Wouldn't a cloud of methane also make people sick?

Now it's happened in Sweden:
Mysterious bird deaths hit Sweden
Quote:
There have been no reports of fireworks or storms in Falkoeping at the time.
Strange. I wonder if they will be able to pinpoint an exact cause for these deaths.

There's no relation between the jackdaws in Sweden and the red-winged blackbirds in the US, they are from different bird orders.

This is absolutely out of it. Freaky, alright.
Just to throw it out there they predicted the world would end next year, freaky weather and unexplained mass deaths of animals was how they say it would start

It depends on the concentration. Would anyone know the recent fracking activity in the area?
That could even be blamed for that fish die off. Fracking old wells can release some awful stuff into the water. Of course if thats to blame it will not come to light. Thank the Bush administration and Chaney for giving the drilling companies more freedom while making it near impossible for the EPA to do anything about it.

Hundreds of dead snapper have been washed up on NZ beaches recently. This is getting really freaky! One thing in isolation is bad enough, but usually explainable. How weird that similar things are happening all over the world at the same time.

I'm feeling a cover-up somewhere. This is NOT normal.

I suppose some of those incidents could be explained by extreme weather, but...............................

Sad and spooky, too.
I can't help but thinking of a canary in a coal mine.
That is kinda creepy that it happened at the same time. Also a bunch of fish died at the same time as well.
I thought I heard on the radio a few days ago that the mass of fish deaths in Cape Cod was attributed to the water temps being colder than usual for this time of year. Anyone else hear that?
