Robin, I've posted the update for her, at her request, a few messages back. I hope she'll be able to connect better later tonight or tomorrow, to add more updates.

Oh poor Midnight! I'm glad it wasn't the tooth and that surgery wasn't required, but sorry about the paw pad. Poor baby!!

As for the head lolling, I bet it is from the medication. That's probably some powerful stuff, but he should be able to be weaned off it soon.

Prayers for Midnight going up!!

Thanks Sinbad's mom. I seem to be having trouble with this site, too. I didn't have your update when I posted. Or the posts responding to that.

And my computer was at least 2 days behind showing that the 3000000 post had happened.

Robin

P.S. I just checked. It still says 2927000 approximately posts. Sort of made the whole thing anticlimactic.

Awww, yes, it does! (re the 3M post thing).

I've been having issues as well off and on. I keep getting some fatal memory error, but if I hit control + refresh, it works again.

I just posted about My4LLMAs problem in the Tech support area.

If the board has ever been recounted it can alter that number shown at the bottom of the main forum page

I know the site had been timing out on my phone too

Oh! I forgot about the count that's posted on the main page! It's not right I think because of the previous crash?

To get the right count, you have to click on an individual post - that highlighted red number next to the triangle (for reporting posts) in the upper right hand corner of each post. When it opens in a new tab, in the browser bar at the top of the page, you'll see in the string the actual post number.

In fact - I just noticed that when you hit the little button to reply to a thread you can see the post number. Look up at the location string in your browser. This one says http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...94#post3001594

I tried to give the update myself last night a bunch of times, but I couldn't connect to anything on here, except pm's. I'm actually happy that other people had problems on this website to, because that means it wasn't just me, and it's not my laptop dying on me again

Midnight had rough night sleeping. I had him sleeping up on the bed, but every time he woke up, he made a strange meow, and would crawl into my arms. So most of the night I was wide awake holding him, while he purred himself to sleep in my arms. I'm not complaining, I'd do anything to make him comfortable! This is what he did the first night he came here. Except then he was 1lb 1oz. Now he's a little heavier and bigger!

He is on Gabapentin, once each morning after he eats. Has anyone else heard of this med? I'm not so sure it's the med making him wobbly. I think he might be wobbly because of his sore paw. We don't let him walk around to far. He's allowed in my room, but only if we're with him, because I don't trust that cone collar, I'm afraid he'll hurt himself, or get stuck. So far he's just staying on my bed, not walking around much. Even though he wants to, because he wants to play with Luna.

Midnight is eating, he will drink if we put him down over his water bowl. He did use his box twice through out the night. He can't get in it on his own. So I keep putting him in there, just incase. I'm a little worried that he hasn't done #2. He usually does that twice a day, he hasn't done that at all today. I know he went yesterday at the vets. So if he hasn't gone by tomorrow, we've got to call the vet.

Thank you for keeping Midnight in your thoughts.

Ok, so it is the drug that is making him wobbly....
Gabapentin Side Effects

The most-common side-effects are mild sedation and ataxia.

Now, in reading this article, I also saw that you can not discontinue this medicine at once - you need to stop slowly, in the course of 2-3 weeks, as you can have a withdraw syndrome with seizures (this is actually a human seizure medication that has been used off label for chronic pain in dogs and cats, usually for arthritis though, sometimes after surgery)
I am not sure why your vet sent him home with such drug IMO... There are other choices out there without such complications.

I do not have experience with gabapentin with animals, but I do have it with humans. My mom was on it when she was having nerve pain in her foot after back surgery. She has been on several very potent pain medications, including oxycodone and percacet, without side effects. However, Gabapentin - this turned her into a blubbering idiot. She fell out of the shower, slurred her words, asked what day it was numerous times in a single hour, and various other things that drove me nuts when I had to "babysit" her. It was, however, the only pain medication that actually took that specific pain away. She did get used to it eventually, but it took a while.

I'm glad that Midnight is back home, but that he has a better night tonight. He's lucky to have a mom who will help him through these rough times!

Ok I'm going to show this article to my father right now. We'll call tomorrow. They didn't say anything about getting him off of it slowly. They just gave us 7 days worth and that was it!

Glad you're back on!

I'm also glad he got a lot of sleep.... but please do call about the gabapentin. I didn't even know it was used in animals, but as has been pointed out, it's an anti-seizure med, and seems to me to be a very strange pain medication choice. ?????????????????

Glad you'll be calling tomorrow. If Midnight is waking up and giving a weird meow, I wonder if it's a pain problem, and the gabapentin isn't doing whatever they expect it to be?

Believe me we're calling tomorrow about this med!

I don't know if it's a pain meow or not. It sounds like the same meow he did the first night he was here and found out he wasn't in my arms anymore. He'll crawl right back into my arms and sleep

Any seizure medicine affects the central nervous system, and because it does that and prevents seizures, you start slowly, and stop slowly, otherwise one of the effects of stopping is having seizures - the others are lack of balance, and on people, you literally go completely stupid. I take anti-seizure medicine to prevent migraines, if I were to stop, I would do it over the period of probably a month. I started slowly, and even so I had side effects - those things are powerful drugs.

Glad to see that your back online! I hope you find out more about the gabapentin when you call tomorrow... It doesn't seem as if your vet gave you enough info on it. Here's some more vibes for Midnight. Hope he is feeling better soon!
