I just found this site and am looking forward to getting info and others experience to trying to tame feral seven month kittens. I have four cats of my own and recently trapped a family of cats living next door at my neighbors abandoned/foreclosed home. It took me three days and no sleep to trap three kittens, the mother and the father too. The mother and father were too feral so are released back out after their TNR. I built a shelter where I feed them and it has an outdoor heating pad and stuffed with straw.

One of the kittens (the more feral one of the three and needed one-on-one care) is in another foster home as I had to separate that one from the other two who were making progress. They are all girls and would have had litters of their own come spring. I had to do something for this family.

I have these kittens in a Midwest cage cat playpen with beds, toys, litter and hammock. After twelve days I am making progress but it is so slow and I wonder if they will ever make it to the point of being adoptable. Pixie is the furthest along. She purrs, rolls, licks my fingers, but does not like to be toweled and held. Fern is more frightened but purred finally yesterday and this morning stood and arched when I pet her back. But she immediately regressed into her shell like she shouldn't allow herself to enjoy petting. She can be toweled and held though.

Any advice on helping them along would be appreciated. This is my first forum I have joined and am not computer savvy but I will try to figure this out.

Thank you

Welcome to TCS hun!
3 of the fosters we have are feral sisters, approx. 7 months old as well. We have had them over a month now with very little success, but I am hoping with time they will come around. Hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks for the welcoming.. This is a great way to connect with other cat lovers and I am looking forward to many discussions!
I couldn't believe my eyes this morning when I came down to feed the feral sisters. Of course, Pixie is always wanting pets, but FERN was jumping down to shelf where I put the bowls and rubbing on the bars. I opened up the cage and she didn't even run away.
She just decided today that she loves pets and I even got to brush her a little. Pixie is a short-haired black and Fern is a long-haired black. They both have a white undercoat, so I looked that up and they are really black smokes. Each of them have a white spot on their belly, very small patch though. They are very small cats and will be beautiful adults. I am feeling more positive about their taming now.

Kalllie... Where do you keep you three feral sisters? I have found that this cat playpen allows me to easily pet them and get them to come around faster than if they were kept in a small room where I would have to corner them for pets (which would scare them even more).

Have a great day and talk later.

They are in one of the foster rooms I have set up.
I am able to pet them, but they HATE it and will run if they're able to, and one of them, the calico, will claw me everytime I even try to pet her. The other 2 just cower usually. I've been giving them treats, talking to them softly and hoping they'll come around eventually. I also have a radio going in their room to help them get used to different sounds.
