Hi everyone! I'm Kate, I'm a 23 year old Nursing student up here in Northern Indiana. I was lucky enough about 3 years ago to have a little tiny stray kitten come up to me while I was at outside taking a break at work...IN the middle of a car filled parking lot. At the time, he was just as cute as a button, white with big blue eyes and I immediately wanted to take him home, poor little guy had to wait inside my work in a big old box with food and water for a few hours, but we eventually got home
Soon as we did, I gave him a bath because he looked dirty to me and lord knows what he got into being outside for who knows how long. Five minutes later and a few kitten cries...I realized his "dirty" look were his markings...OOPS
I had yet to see any cat marked like him. Solid white with a little yellow/tan on his face, ears, tail, and just barely on legs/feet.

When I went to go get him fixed when he was 6 months old, the ditzy secretary at the clinic asked what breed he was and I had no clue. So she just said "looks american shorthair to me" if the research I did says anything, american shorthair can be almost any color of the rainbow with just as many markings...so that didn't help me much.

So maybe you guys can help. The research I did tonight with what I know of Gabriel (my cat). I swear he has some Cream Point Ragdoll in him somewhere because the breed description hits the nail right on the head.

His qualities: He is quiet, he doesn't meow, he squeaks. He can fetch like a dog, his toy mice and paper wads. His fur feels like rabbit's fur. I swear he is a dog in disguise, gets along with everyone from my 2 year old nephew to my middle aged father. He actually prefers to play with dogs over cats. He DIGS in purses after receipts to play with because he knows receipts come from there. He doesn't shed that much. I trained him to sit on command. He will beg for his cat treats and he crashes in my lap like a broken pile of fur.

So I was just curious if there is anyway to figure out a cat's breed without any freaky scientific tests. He was a stray so I have no clue what his parent's breeds were or if they were just alley cats. I just think he is a beautifully marked male, soft, unique qualities and that he may be something special
(other than just to me).

~ Kate

Hello and welcome to TCS. As with so many of us here, your cat found you, not the other way round, and he is a lucky boy. He is unbelievably beautiful, but as breeders here will tell you, without papers or a knowledge of his background, it is impossible to tell what if any breeds might be in his parentage. So he is a Domestic SHorthair or DHS. Since many breeds were derived from careful choosing of cats with particular characteristics, he may well exhibit tendencies of one or another, but it does not mean necessarily that he has ancestors from those breeds. But he is gorgeous.

He is a Domestic Short Hair (DSH), because you don't have any papers for him.

However, he is a flame-pointed cat, like the gorgeous Flambe, our foster.

Now, the question is, does he have "THE VOICE?" Siamese (otherwise known as Meezers) are famous for a very loud, insistent voice.

The Voice....haha no, Gabriel is actually kinda strange. He has only properly "meow'ed" maybe 4 times in 3 years and I think he scared himself. He kinda squeaks and chirps, and he only really does it when he wants his cat treats or wants you to play fetch with him. Thanks for your input everyone, regardless of not knowing his "heritage" and such, I still think he has something in him....if it looks like a cat but feels like a rabbit and ACTS like a dog....there is something strange flowing through his veins
lol

Your beautiful cat looks exactly like my boy. I will have to figure out how to post pictures so I can show you. They are flame point Siamese mix. My was a rescue too. I will get my photos up soon.

Very handsome boy. The correct color term to use is RED LYNX POINT domestic shorthair. Red is used for shorthair cats, the only ones that use "flame" point are Himalayans.

BTW American Shorthair (purebred) cats come in all colors EXCEPT pointed, chocolate or lilac colors.
