Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Carolina, a caring vet makes a world of difference. Gary and I are waiting with baited breath for a payment due us so we can get caught up at the vets, but I was just there getting food, and the office manager told me to stop worrying. So many of us are right there with you!

I KNOW you feel bad about the space. But we live in an RV with 8.
Trust me, it's not about space, it's about quality. Gracie is one VERY lucky lady.

What about boiling her some chicken broth? Does she lap liquid more easily than trying to eat? If that works, maybe shred some chicken REALLY fine....

Poor baby, is all I keep thinking. Gary has horrible teeth, and he's got teeth that didn't get that bad - but almost, and that was just EXCRUCIATING for him. I really wonder if this has affected the way she reacts to the other kitties, and once her second surgery is behind her and she's healed up if things will change.....

But for right now, I'm just sending heaps of vibes her way, poor baby! And some for you too.

Poor baby!!! Both of you! All I can think is that God, or fate, will provide what you need, when you need it, to take care of this poor little girl. I can't believe how she's flourished already under your care, and that's with this bad tooth.

And, yes, thanks be that you have one angel in Kelly to help you and Gracie...somehow it must have been meant to be that you met this particular practice at this particular time.

Yeah Lorie... Nobody beats the space situation like you do!
The problem here is another - the problem here is Bugsy limits her space a bunch, but that is another story... I am dealing with it like we spoke about it...
About the food: I blended the Fancy Feast on my smoothie maker, so it was a liquidy paste, very sof, almost liquid really... softer than baby food. As much as it touched her mouth, she ran in pain. She just might be very sore... Imagine that she just had her gums opened, the bone scraped, tooth extracted, a bone implant placed... all that right in front of her mouth.
Hopefully tomorrow she will be better...

Oh poor Gracie!

Lots of good that tomorrow she'll be feeling better and can get some food in. After one of Cotton's big surgeries, we actually had to end up moving where we fed him because the old place had such an association with pain that he wouldn't go there to eat. Hopefully everything will go smoothly for Gracie from here on in.

That's so distressing about Gracie's pain and her not being able to eat. And she's on pain meds? And what happens tomorrow? Do they think she will be a lot better? Is she going to have pain medicine when the shot wears off?

She is so very lucky to have you. Without your help she'd be done for now.

You are so good about updates, and I'm so glad because. I'll be thinking about poor Gracie a lot.

All night.

Awww Robin, thank you

Yes, she does have pain meds... It's a strong one too - Nalbuphine. I will start tomorrow morning, 2-3 times a day, depending on her pain levels.
Thank you for thinking of my sweet old little lady

I looked at that tooth and all I can say is that it's a miracle she's been able to eat ANYTHING! No wonder she's been a bit on the crabby side, between the thyroid and this! God bless you for loving and saving Gracie!

I wouldn't worry about the space either. Kitties are so much more adaptable than we are. I'm sure she's thankful for a safe home, someone who cares about her, and a steady supply of food than space.

Thank you Stephanie

Yes, the tooth was pretty bad... They made a point to bring it out to show it to me. It is brittle and looks like there are some hollow spaces - very strange. I tried to see how hard it was, an outer piece broke right off; it had to be very painful, I am glad it is out.
She is a cutie pie... It is tough to see her in pain
I was sitting there petting her, next thing I know she was laying on my lap
... That's a first right there - I think she wants to be babied now that she doesn't feel well...
Hopefully tomorrow morning she is going to eat something... If she doesn't I am going to call Kelly to see if there is something we can do about it. tonight I will leave her be.

You're absolutely right - Gracie wouldn't have survived her health problems outside and only minimally cared for, so you've done her a tremendous service taking her in, even if she's not thrilled about the other kitties and Bugsy's overtures. He might still win her over when she's feeling better and has settled in more.

I wonder if your neighbor's husband would pay Gracie's bill if you told him about it? It's definitely a pre-existing condition.

Lots of that she's feeling better and eating by tomorrow!

Gracie will get used to Bugsy, and may some day even accept his overtures. Gracie has been through a lot, she just needs time to adjust, and in your home and heart she is being given all the time she needs, the health care she so desperately required and all the love she can want, all her needs are being met, that is what is important.

The fact that she crawled into your lap, and that that is a first, only illustrates what I am saying here. She just needs time in addition to everything else she is getting from you, it's all good. Baby steps, Carolina, Baby Steps.

I hope the pain medication is helping her so she can get some food into her tummy. Do you have sub q fluids to give her, if she won't eat today?

Gosh, I don't know how I missed this thread yesterday. Poor Gracie! No wonder she's been just a bit crabby. I'd be a major crab with a tooth like that
. that she feels like eating soon, and that the "reconstructive surgery" goes well.

Don't you have pet insurance? I guess that's what that large discount was.

Carolina, you've been so helpful for others when they have needed money to pay their Vet bills, why don't you set up something for yourself too? Like the Weebly or something that Boo and Bear and Coco all had? I'm sure there are people out there who would be happy to contribute, if you had something set up.

!!!!!!!!!!! IS there harm in asking the neighbor's husband?

How's she doing today? I know you have to leave tomorrow, and I'm really hoping it won't be with as much worry as if she's able to eat a little today....

No, the discount was not from the insurance... She is not insured, and if she was, the insurance doesn't cover dental. The discount was due to friendship from Kelly and Jim - They have been taking care of Bugsy for a while... They have become friends...
Yes, a few weeks ago the organizer of the CB offered me help, offered me to run an auction for me to raise funds for Bugsy's vet bills. I was somewhat "fine" then, and told her to keep doing the auctions for the other kitties in more need at the time... She said if I needed, I could just call... I will talk to her, as I do need it now. I already have a blog for a while as you guys know, I don't need to set one up really. Boo's mom and Jacky had to do it because they didn't have one to begin with, so I helped them with that after I sent them over to the CB.

Oh yeah, there is harm in asking that guy... I don't want him anywhere near me... His wife is SO bad right now, she doesn't remember she lives in the building anymore... Yet, she is still living alone - that guy is a heartless soul
I want nothing from him - Just distance.

Thank you otto

She had a rough few days last week of fear here, long story, but is all recovered from that...
I put the baby gate on my office for her, and LDG gave me an excellent tip to cover the baby gate up -so I put a blanket over it... Little by little she is losing her fear again... it is going to be a looooong intro, but who knows? who knows if I move to house with a garden? Ha!
now the good news!
Drum rolls please! She ate this morning!
I got the stinkiest fancy feast and mashed with water, she ate just short of a can!

I was able to give her the pain meds a little before she ate, and she was starved...
She is sleeping now... I will offer some more food around 7 or so... but I think she will be fine!

I am so glad she is eating. I think pain from a bad tooth is one of the worst and she is on her way to being pain free.

So glad Gracie is doing better. I bet, like others have mentioned, when her mouth is all healed she will be much more receptive to Bugsy. Pain makes cats feel vulnerable.

I've seen the difference being relieved of mouth pain can make in a cat, more than once. It's a wonderful thing to see!
