Do you make them? Do you stick to them?

I usually don't, but did the past two years, and have stuck to them.

I keep telling myself I should resolve not to procrastinate this coming year.

Have you been putting this one off for a while now?

I normally don't make them, but this past year has been a year of huge change for me. I'm resolving to build up my relationships with my family this year.

No, we don't make them. We would break them anyway!

Although, I have been under the weather this past week and have dropped probably 5 or 6 pounds. So I think it is an incentive to continue into the new year loosing weight.

But I wont make a resolution of it. That would jinx it!!

I have made New Year's resolutions in past years and have stuck to them. Perhaps, I have even been too "obsessed" with sticking to resolutions in the past -- I typically struggle with not being too much of a perfectionist. I am very stubborn and feel that if I resolve to do something, it must be done. Persevering is one thing, but being stubborn is another. Maybe, this year, I should make a resolution to not be so obsessive about resolutions. But, I know me and I know that that would never work
.

All joking aside, I have made a resolution for 2011. I would like to perform one random act of kindness each day. I don't want accolades, nor do I want praise -- I just want to work on becoming a less selfish individual. I am also planning on keeping a journal so that I can go back and see myself becoming more open and trusting and less inhibitive and self-centered. This is something I'm really looking forward to doing and I hope that I can remain positive and resolute throughout while not being too hard on myself should I not be perfect (which, of course, I can never be).

I think it'll be interesting to see where everyone is resolution-wise in 3 and 6 months. And, for those who are not planning a New Year's resolution, I would be interested in seeing how your lives change in the next year. For we are always growing and changing -- a resolution is not necessary for growth to occur. Hopefully, we can all look back, a year from now, and see that 2011 was a year of peace, joy, grace, and gratitude. That is what I wish for myself and what I wish for everyone...

Happy New Year, everyone! May 2011 be a year of blessings for you all!

Alison, what a wonderful resolution!

I don't make them as I always used to break them.

I have a pre-new year's resolution which is to help get to the 3M post count by tomorrow night!
Unfortunately, I'm not willing to stay up all night to do it.

I dont bother making them
That way there is no disappointment when I break them less than a month later

And because if I want to set a goal, I dont feel like I need to set one on the 1st day of a new year, I can just set one whenever I feel like I need to or want to throughout the year

I always was against New Years resolutions. Why try to make promises to yourself just because
and then give yourself that failure deadline which once you break it, you have little reason to try again
. No one likes to fail
, especially when your failing yourself
!
So what I do is give myself goals to reach that year, things I want to do to improve my life, feel better about myself, grow.....
This year I want to start doing more of my art again. I also want to expand my rooftop garden, build more planters and add more flowers
. I also want to fix up my apartment, including give Maia a new window perch and ramp
(she will really love that!). Really focused on growing career wise, increase my income and experience.
Oh yeah, loose that holiday weight I gained
!

This has worked for me the past few years, I constantly feel a need to grow so giving myself goals helps me focus. New Year's is a good time to do it!

I know one goal I really have to work towards - Jamie and Miezi both really need to lose at least two pounds each. Are we allowed to make resolutions for our cats?

I keep them. But my resolutions are always decadent and so aren't put off or dismissed, heh! None of this "I'm going to work harder or self-improve" nonsense, thats no fun!!!

A so-called "expert" on TV last night said if you manage to stick to your resolution for the first 72 hours you have a good chance of keeping it. I can't see that.
