After alot of thought, research, and discussion, we are working towards bringing our little man home!

Now that I have insurance, and the right asthma and allergy medicine, my condition can be managed. We also were unaware of a lot of things we were doing wrong and things we could have done to make our home less of a hazard to my health. We got a brand new vacuum, and are cleaning way more, moving the litter box to a less used room, getting different litter, and getting foam cleanser to cut down on his dander and saliva

I am so overjoyed, now we just have to figure out a time to drive down there and get him!!

Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry you didn't know how to manage the allergies!

WHAT EXCITING NEWS!

I'm going to go find a thread where it's been discussed - lots of good ideas, and the long list of things I do. I've got (severe) allergies to cats and asthma, and live in an RV with 8 of them.

OK, here's the link:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...ight=distilled

Maybe more ideas in there for you.

Also, I remember someone who would fold the laundry, then put it in plastic bags so it wouldn't pick up dander while in the closet. More work than I'm willing to do, but the zyrtec, hepa filters, wiping down the cats with distilled water, using the throws, vacuuming, and using the furminator comb on the cats does enough for me.

I don't think I mentioned in the other allergies thread that I also have a problem with itchy runny eyes at times and hives. I have a prescription for Ultravete cream (a steroid cream). OTC stuff is available, but Ultravete is stronger, and works when I need it (for the hives).

For the eyes, I keep regular visine handy. But washing my hands after petting a kitty pretty much takes care of that (we just keep hand wipes available all over the house).

What sort of regime are you on for your asthma? Just having the right medications makes such a big difference. You'll likely find yourself getting less respiratory colds/infections if your meds are helping enough.
My DH takes Advair, Allegra, Singular, and his arbuterol inhaler. That may sound like a lot, but each does something different that really helps. The Singular, for example, controls another type of immune response that happens with asthma and allergies. Do make sure you keep communication open with your doctor and if you have any problems don't hesitant to call them.

Aside from just cleaning as far as a cat is concerned, there are so many environmental allergens and chemical irritants that sensitize the body. Learn about them, what bothers you, and avoid them! Both my DH and I are extremely sensitive to inhaled chemicals and other irritants, especially anything scented and smoke. What will happen to either one of us if we breath this stuff in is that it will make us that much more sensitive to other triggers (allergy in DH's case) that normally we would not respond to. If your body is in overdrive from those your immune system can overreact more to cat dander than it normally would.

If litter dust is a problem there are a couple of truly dust free alternatives - the Tidy Cat Breeze and the Smart Cat Box (and DIY versions of that).

I hope you can make this work.

thank you so much for the advice it helps a ton! i actually dont have any reactions to him like that. i do to other cats sometimes but ive never had a major allergy reaction to him other than sneezing a couple times a week (usually after cleaning the liter box or vacuuming). so thankfully i think it can all be easily managed.

now we are just trying to deal with the girl we gave him to. she will have him for 2 weeks tomorrow (which is when i am going down to get him) and she is secretly sending my boyfriend(theyve been best friends for over 10 years) emails of jericho and her cats cuddling, even after i wrote her telling her that we are planning to get him back after we get the house situated. But she never wrote me back, only emails him secretly, instead of putting things on facebook so we both can see updates and photos...just dont understand why shes trying to make us feel guilty about wanting him back

Did she think she was taking him permanently? If so, it's a very awkward situation, and one where it needs to really be discussed with her - and the resolution not necessarily in your favor.
