Growth in ear

My big white cat, Spooky, has a black growth in one of his ears, possibly more than one growth. At first we thought his ears were just dirty, but when my daughter attempted to clean them, she noticed this. They do seem to be painful to him. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

I think you need to check with the vet as soon as possible. I hope it's something easily diagnosed and treatable.

Yeah I second getting to the vet as soon as, especially if its hurting him

Don't wait, take him right to the vet, especially if he's in pain.

I have a vet appt. on Monday. That is the soonest they can get him in, as they are closed tomorrow and Saturday. It only seems to be painful if we touch them. I have looked again and he does have them in multiples and in both ears. On closer observation, they look like big black pimples.
